Don't you hate it when people post obnoxious text at the top of their blog and you have to scroll past it every time you want to read what they've posted? Man, I really hate that.

How long can I procrastinate getting my laptop fixed...

So recently the left hinge of my laptop has been getting loose, and now when I tilt the lid back and forth a red line sometimes appears near the left side of a screen; an entire column of broken pixels. Generally jiggling it back and forth a bit gets rid of it but it's getting to be harder to dispel.

I really should get it looked at, but I don't really want to be without it for any length of time; my friend's computer broke recently and they took it to the same shop I bought/insured mine from, and the 1-week repair time they were told became three in the end (which basically tells you more than you could ever want to know about customer service in the UK).

So I'm procrastinating getting it fixed while worrying that if it gets worse it'll be harder for them to fix, and therefore take longer. The power cable started playing up recently and I took it in for that, and they were really good about ordering a new one, and I had it within a few days despite this happening right around Christmas. But still, that didn't actually involve me handing the thing in.

That's the downside of having a laptop, some things can't be as easily fixed as with a desktop and the screen is prone to breaking faster because you constantly open and close it. If it has to be fixed it has to be fixed and it could very well be that they need to order parts or that it's not fixable at all without completely replacing the screen. In that case it's probably cheaper for you to just get a new laptop.

That's nothing; my laptop's hardware occasionally makes strange whirring, creaking noises, usually resulting in a freeze. And I only got in December (though on the bright side, that means it's still under warranty).

That sounded like a problem I had with one of my Nintendo DS. I think you should get it seen to as soon as possible but if it costs way to much, just get a new laptop. (If getting a new Laptop is cheaper)

Before you get ripped off, go and do some calculations as to how much longer you expect to have your current laptop, how much the thing will cost to repair and that, then run that up against how much a new laptop costs divided by how many years you expect to have that one for.

It's insured for at least one more year. It should be done for free.

Considering you still have a warranty, I'd say take full advantage of it.

Mine was never insured and it's such an old model, no one would be bothered to fix it.

My laptop took 3 weeks to be repaired. My case was that the hard drive had problems with it, and I knew it wasn't a virus since anything I've downloaded has been from an official/safe resource.
Only had it 4 months. It's been great now but when I got it back there was a weird sratch on the back of the screen. It was a pretty deep mark too, it annoyed me since I like to keep all my electronics in perfect condition.
So far it's the only thing that has a scratch on it. -_-
