Man, fuck Christianity

Posted 08-01-2012 at 02:16 PM by Laser
I only say this because I have had the most exposure to Christians in my life, but seriously, fuck Christianity.

At university The Christian Society give out pancakes, cupcakes or brownies in exchange for people texting them questions (quite a sweet deal for sure). So of course, me being all up for anything related to free cupcakes send in a question and get it hand delivered and a little answer on a slip of paper which is usually some non-committal answer (like the smarmy agnostic cunt I am, I usually ask the shitty questions like "If God is everywhere is he in my pancake?").

But I found one of the more recent ones which asked something like "Why would a benevolent God allow the creation of senile dementia?" and got an answer back saying something along the lines of "God created the disease for men to suffer so they can atone for their sins and if they turn to the light of God they can join him in heaven"

Now my Grandma got dementia and I saw Louis Theroux's fantastic documentary on senile dementia and the idea that someone can gradually forget their family, friends and basically turn into a shell all because of our sinful lives just seems like fucking insanity.

Sorry for the length and ranting nature of this blog, it is quater past 11 at night and I have no one to really rant at in real life at the moment. I just needed to get it out of my system.

Yeah Organized Religion is pretty gay. I feel like the title to this blog is a bit of a loaded gun though.

I try not to confuse the Christian religion with the silly things that ultra-right wing nutjobs like to say. There's plenty in the Bible to be disgusted by without bothering with the crazy people.

Sounds like pure idiocy to me even if it is religion-related.

Christ was a pretty good guy, fundamentally teaching piece and kindness. I disagree with organised religion, though, at least, beyond the local parish level.

I'm an atheist, but I believe anyone has the right to believe in what they want to believe. I don't, however, think it isn't right for arrogant judgmental scumbags like those people to go around corrupting peoples thoughts, thinking they are better than everyone else.

Not just fuck Christianity, fuck religion, I hate it, though I can't argue with some of their moral standpoints like don't steal and things like that ETC.

So, to re-phrase:

:
Not just fuck Christianity, fuck religion, I hate it, apart from the good bits, those are fine.
That's the same with every organisation in the entire world. The fact that well over half of everything religion does benefits humanity rather than detriments it doesn't help your viewpoint, either.

The Christian Society at my university handed out free coffee and cakes on the mornings of really snowy days with no strings attached.

You know, like you'd think good Christians should do.

I respect them for that.

It's a lazy theist who draws a direct line between bad things and direct punishment for being a bad person. I've heard a fair few answers for similar questions, very few of which I found particularly satisfying, but none of them ever tried that tack.

S/he was just an idiot. Leaving aside the fact that you had a direct connection to dementia, that answer leads directly to 'Well then, why do bad things lead to good people?'. And if they respond 'They can't have been good people then...' you can start listing every single saint who suffered debilitating ailments or painful deaths.

What I'm basically trying to say is that s/he has no idea of how to actually evangalise in a way that makes Christianity sound attractive.

Speaking as someone who's only read the first post of this blog, that's just maddeningly untrue. Dementia is a result of the Fall, the brokenness of the whole universe and all in it caused by mans' sin. The Bible makes it clear that God does not condone, encourage or enjoy our suffering; in fact he came to Earth to die on the cross so as to end our suffering.
I hate it so much when Christians say or imply otherwise; all it shows is that they've completely misunderstood the fundamentals of the religion they claim to follow. Jesus died to atone for our sins himself - he literally felt complete rejection by God and, by extension, separation from all good things: the very punishment deserved by sinners. He suffered to alleviate the sufferings of people. We do not need to atone for our sins and if we did we never could; that is why Jesus died and suffered in our place.

As I try to avoid religious debates on this forum because they inevitably end in my getting flamed horrendously, don't be offended if I don't read this blog again. Sorry. But I just wanted to give a different Christian opinion.

What a great way to win an argument. I'm going to post something antithetical to what most of you believe, include some stuff that is clearly a personal interpretation, some other stuff that has no basis in the source material, and then never ever come back to see what anyone said. And I'm going to do this because I'm the only capable of having a civil discussion.

Isn't Splat the best?

Yeah, but he wasn't actually trying to convince any of us or win an argument. He was suggesting (similarly to my last comment) that the person in question doesn't know their own religion.
