Ingrown Nails

Posted 02-12-2011 at 08:28 AM by STM
Heyo,
I wouldn't normally post two blogs in such quick succession but I have a problem that I don't want a doctors opinion on.

I have two ingrown toe nails and they were excreting discharge last night, I think it might have been pus, I tried bathing them today but I can't get cotton threads underneath to relieve the nail and send it on a correct growth path. I am terrified of podiatrists and was wondering if anyone knows a remedy for the problem. Maybe I need to try thinner thread instead? I don't know.

Thank you for reading.

Amputation sounds like the only option. You should be administered opium before you do it.

I was going to laugh at you for your " I am terrified of podiatrists " comment, but then I remembered how much it smarts to have a nail removed. Good luck.

rip them out with pliers.

but really, get it sorted before it gets any worse, because it will.

EDITED: removed story about my nail, i forgot you might have yours removed. just go for it.

That was somewhat cringe-worthy. I've never had an ingrown toenail but I can imagine the pain. Sort yourself out!

So I bathed it today added some savalon which stung for a bit but I guess it fought off any infection and now I have some pain relieving cotton string stuck between the toe and the nail, this should improve things according to my mothers personal experience. My father wants me to get it checked out but I'm terrified of having anything done to my nails.

Tear them out with pliers if you want an immediate solution. It will hurt, but at least you can say you've done it.

I'm completely serious, but not completely sober. Take this advice with a grain of salt.

But don't put any salt on your nail. That sounds like it would hurt too.

I had that, but wasn't so bad. Bathe them in a tub of water with some salt in it in the evening and it should help soften the nail so it grows to it's natural shape while the salt helps to fight the infection.

Been there, done that. Go see a docter, he'll sedate your entire toe and cut off the part of your nail thats grown in (and a bit extra so it doesn't happen again). Had an ingrown toenail fixed a while ago and it hasn't happened since.

Thanks all,

@Elmatto - I did the soaking minus the salt, thanks for the extra tip

@Havoc - No joke, if I was awake while a doctor did this to my toe, I don't mean like numb I actually mean if I was awake, I would physically chunder.

Anything you do right now may fight the infection, but it won't fix the nail itself. Get yourself drunk and go see a doctor. They're used to seeing people scared of pain and know how to help you deal with it.

I once ran a few miles in shoes two sizes too small for me. When I took them off my feet were bruised and my big toe was just one big bruise, entirely blue. The underside of the nail was covered in sticky blood. It was loose for the next few weeks, then it fell off and I had to pull out the remaining shards of congealed bloody nail with pliers.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Oh nasty.

@ Nate, you'd be surprised, today my nails are almost painless and are no more digging into my toe, they also feel clean and n more discharge has occured.

If you do go to the doctors draw an angry face on your nail and convince yourself that it's mocking you. You'll want to be rid of it I promise you.

And I'd be surprised if it stays that way. Like I said, you're treating the infection and not the nail.
