My aunt Sue has never been under 300 pounds in my lifetime. Her weight has caused her numerous health problems; diabetes, arthritis, cardiac issues, she even had to get her knees replaced at some point. She is the youngest of my mother's siblings, somewhere in her mid-thirties, and we were all quite positive she would probably not make it past forty.

Without liposuction, after twenty something years of battling with her weight and it's complications, she has dropped almost all the weight and has slimmed down to about 170 pounds.

Here's the before and after pictures:

Before (She's the one on the left. Her daughter, my cousin, is on the right. She's still fat, and getting fatter. We're scared she'll fall into the same habits)

What she looks like now.

She pulled this off in less than a year. Human willpower can be amazing sometimes.

Be aware that the weight will most likely start rising again now that she's reached her goal. That's natural; long term weight loss is nearly unachievable, even if you change your habits.

I'd also make sure she doesn't have body dysmorphic issues or any eating disorders. 130 pounds in less than a year is not healthy to begin with. I'm very curious as to the methods that went into her weight loss, but I won't pry.

Congrats, I suppose. My mother is on a "food plan" which was suggested to her by her FAA (Food addicts anonymous) group, and her weight dropped at about the same rate. I don't trust her food plan because she eats the bare minimum to survive and it scares me how she talks about food sometimes. I guess I'm just projecting those concerns.

Both of my parent have a remarkable tip to anyone who wants to lose a lot of weight, fast: Get divorced. It's amazing how effective it is.

That is a high rate of weight loss, but the long-term health benefits to her make it almost certainly worth it. Many congratulations to her.

Sue's habits are pretty poor, but I think she can keep the weight off. She's been overweight for so long, and the fact that's shes lost it has given her a huge chance that I don't think she'd be dumb enough to throw away.

Time will tell. If she puts it back on, we'll all be partly to blame. Given the state of her health, she cannot afford to go through that again.

EDIT: Nate, funnily enough she did get divorced recently from my Uncle Frank. Frank was cheating on her, and he was thanklessly supporting her for years. Only recently did he finally just throw his hands up and walk out on her. Sue took it pretty hard though, I'm actually surprised she didn't put on more weight.

I'm surprised you wrote this whole entry without mentioning me.

Congratulations to your aunt. That's great that she was able to overcome that. My mom and grandmother are still struggling with weight issues, but after seeing my mom quit smoking without even using a patch, I'm sure she'll lose the weight soon too.

Reference jokes are my favourite.

Buggered? That doesn't make much sense to me given the context. What meaning of it are you using?

Also this blog is already ruined. I really hate this place.

Why are you drinking? Is it a drinking game? Every time you use the wrong word, take a gulp? I'd have to carry around with me a flagon of something in my inside pocket the frequency with which I slip up in mid-conversation.

Drink every time I misuse British slang despite the inexcusable ties I have to it being around my obscenely British father.

So yes, "blokes". Let's do "sod" it and get "cricket" with the "tankard" and "bobs your uncle".

Wait...

Cheeky bugger.

Any of you Britons care to give me a good translation of that? I asked Joe once and his answer was highly unsatisfactory.

The context was...

I commented on a Youtube video claiming how a hornist looked like Ravel "Ravel is playing horn!" Yeah, hilarious, I know. I later got a comment that simply said "Cheeky bugger."

"Cheeky" shouldn't need explaining to you, it's not restricted to the UK. It's been used on the Simpsons (not as mock-English, but as a pun).

A "bugger" can be many things, but in most contexts it's a mildly irritating or foolish person or occurence.
