I agree with you, I think the fact that she's 15 is slightly creepy. I know this guy and his ex-girlfriend is either 14 or 15, and he spoke to me about having a sexual dream about her once. It made me feel a bit sick.

Hell, I have nothing against age gaps (there's like a 10 year gap between me and my boyfriend) but when one person is underage I think it's a little weird.

I don't think a three year age gap is very significant, as long as both people are roughly on the same level mentally. I.e. the older person is dumber than average, or the younger person is smarter than average. My girlfriend is four years younger than me, but I'm dumb as a bag of rocks, so...

Youth, yes. Innocence, not as much. Most pedophiles consider puberty to be the cut-off point, and I've read that many of them regard puberty as "the worst thing ever" and "the end of innocence".

Ephebophilia is creepy, still not as creepy as pedophilia. It's also less creepy if you're in the percentile that's under the age of 30. I don't know the age of consent where you live, CP, but here it's 16.

Why?

I guess once you reach a certain age, people expect you to be attracted to others within an age range of 5-10 years tops. For a person 30 or older to be attracted to someone who is - say - 16 or 17 is generally regarded as "creepy". And vice versa.

I've known a few girls who were in very happy and stable relationships with guys much older than they were, much to the chagrin of their friends and family, who took every opportunity to make their lives difficult over it.

Also, I'd like to specify that Ephebophilia refers to the attraction of teenagers, up to and including the age of 19, so it's usage can be a bit dubious.

I don't think age if both partners are past the legal age of consent matters. It's socially 'creepy' and maybe there's something inherent to us that tells us that it's weird but that's simply a baseless emotional reaction. Let people do what they want with their own lives.

Not unsimilarly, I don't think sexual attraction to someone under the legal age of consent changes in creepiness as you get older either. Firstly because a fourty year old is entitled to the same sex drive as a twenty year old, secondly because there's no difference whatsoever between a twenty year old child molestor and a fourty year old child molestor and lastly because a child molestor is a rapist before s/he is a pedophile or ephebophile. People can't help how they're made but they can help what they do.

So now that we have the basics out of the way; 3 years is hardly a big gap. Yes there's a law that technically makes it illegal, but how often does someone actually get arrested over that (unless you're in the US)?

Wait, I'm having a Deja Vu... we've been here before. With the exact same age difference. And I seem to remember everyone breaking their face over how disgusting and wrong it was.

The conclusion we came to after 30 pages of discussion was that 15 and 18 would not be considered weird or creepy by anyone I know while it's generally frowned upon in the US and the UK, so it's a matter of local culture and standards.

Furthermore, while I know that it's socially akward for an older person to perceive a teenager (14+) as sexy, I also believe that this is for a large part genetics. Looking at this from a nature standpoint, girls become physically ready for intercourse and having children around 13/14. They start having all the markings that make women attractive to men around that age. It's not exactly strange that men are (subconsciously) attracted to that, no matter how old they are. It's just weird to admit it because it's become socially awkward over the years.

I'll probably get burned over this again so I'll just get ready for my 3 week period of hate now.
