My Tenth Blog: Inglorious (may contain spoilers)

So I came back from watching Inglorious Basterds at the cinema, it was pretty good. The action and ending is truly worthy of being called a Tarantino film.

My main criticism was the slow pacing for the start of the film. Except from that, it was exceptional is quite a few ways. For a period piece, it was filmed well and the costumes and cast were chosen wisely.

Brad Pitt is superb as the over-the-top american general. You'll get to see some interesting role reversals near the end of the film and there are quite a few unexpected happenings throughout the film.

Most of the language in this film is German/French, but the subtitles are in a nice yellow font, so they are easy on the eyes. The film is broken down into chapters, but unlike most Tarantino films it follows in a linear order from start to finish (Probably to stop the audience getting confused).

I give this film an 8/10. If you like Quentin Tarantino films and don't mind a bit of waiting before the main plot kicks in, you'll like it.

Any thoughts?

I actually really, really enjoyed the parts that most people would consider the "slow pacing" parts. Those scenes were all about creating tension and then releasing it. Very well done. The only thing that I felt kept the film from being great was the almost wacky way that Hitler and the top Nazi brass were portrayed. They just didn't come off as being worthy adversaries.

However, I loved the way that the typical Nazi foot soldiers were humanized in the film. They weren't merely sneering, laughing monstrosities as they are in most films (especially "action" films). They had three dimensional lives.

True, but none of the Nazis could be considered 'good' at any point in the film. There's a bit of redemption for the Sniper-turned-actor, but then he goes a bit mental by the end of the film.
