	I have about 190 thousand dollars worth of pirated software on my computer. Nearly every professional artist I know, even ones that work in Hollywood, have pirated copies of PS.

	Fraps looks like chump change compared to After Effects. Shame that video editing software is pretty low on the ground. We have about a billion image editing pieces of software but no video editors? No video editors for smartphones either I guess?

	I'd gladly pay for Photoshop or Premiere if they offered it at a normal price. Hell I'd pay 200 bucks for it if I get all the updates and stuff. But over a thousand is just too much.

	I got the entire Adobe Creative Suite for free. Not just the trial version either, I got the full thing.

Make good stuff, then make it easy for people to buy it. There’s your anti-piracy plan. The big content companies are TERRIBLE at doing both of these things, so it’s no wonder they’re not doing so well in the current environment. And right now everyone’s fighting to control distribution channels, which is why I can’t watch Star Wars on Netflix or iTunes. It’s fine if you want to have that fight, but don’t yell and scream about how you’re losing business to piracy when your stuff isn’t even available in the box I have on top of my TV. A lot of us have figured out how to do this.

	I always found adobe to be way over priced. What i don't get is why not make the individual products from the creative suite cheaper.(or it least cheaper than what they are now) $399.00 for CS5 design premium $349.00 for Photoshop alone. Am i missing something here?

	The price is so high because it has a slow turnover rate, I guess. Piracy doesn't help that.

Except I've just taken the time to look and there isn't.

Sure, they could have a much higher turnover rate if they lowered their prices, but Adobe could argue that it's not an essential product for everyone to have. However, there is a huge demand for it, it seems - So having the price so damned high is a stupid business decision on Adobe's part.

	Doesn't Adobe allow these packages to be bought in bulk? I can imagine that would be cheaper for companies who are buying multiple copies. Obviously not for single users, but if that's the case, that could be how they make the money doing it.

	Not only that, but Adobe makes it painfully impossible to buy older versions of their software, keeping prices high because people can only find the latest versions. Ripoff if ever I saw one.

But there are plenty of students or freelancers for who it is a lot of money. I dunno, they should make a license for home use and an expensive version for professional use.

This, pretty much. It’s easy to moan about prices being high, but this isn’t a product aimed at your average web surfer. It’s a professional suite of software intended for use in businesses.

I dunno, they should make a license for home use and an expensive version for professional use.

Photoshop Elements fulfills this role for all the internet folks who need an image editor. As for the other apps in their range, I doubt any have a home use market large enough to justify a whole separate set of licences.
