Don't you hate it when people post obnoxious text at the top of their blog and you have to scroll past it every time you want to read what they've posted? Man, I really hate that.

Not sleeping

So the last week or so I've persistently not been settling down to sleep until after 3 AM (including tonight, as chance would have it). It gets to about 1AM and I think 'that's enough, I'll go to bed now' and then I just... don't. I mean procrastinating about winding down and going to bed has sort of been a consistent thing with me for the last few years but not usually so late so persistently.

It means I'm not sleeping nearly enough and getting increasingly exhausted every evening, but I still can't make myself wind down until the less-early hours.

But then in the weeks up to Christmas I wasn't sleeping brilliantly; I was going to bed but not falling asleep for a long time, so maybe that's started me in this odder-than-usual pattern. It's weird how something to regular and so vital can sometimes be so difficult.
I've often found thinking about stories I'm planning to write/wanting to right/dreaming of writing helps me settle once I'm in bed, and I haven't written anything for ages and have been dried up for ideas for a long time, so maybe that's part of the reason I wasn't sleeping so well. Maybe I should push myself into getting into a story; if I managed it, it'd at least be more productive than the time I spend on MMORPGs. About a year ago I had several ideas I was working on in my head and on paper (well, on keyboard) but as I say, I've not done much since; none of those ideas have been properly realised. My laptop is a graveyard of unfinished dreams.

If I sound dozy in this blog it's for the aforementioned reasons.

Smoke weed or start drinking. You wont be able to keep your eyes open.

No, don't start drinking. I tried that - If I sleep while a little tipsy from alcohol, I wake up feeling dehydrated with a nasty headache. It's not as bad as a hangover, but it really isn't worth it.

Try being a lot more active during the day and wearing yourself out before bed one night. Then maybe you can get back into your regular pattern.

The joke was that Splat is so straight edge, he wouldn't drink or do drugs if his life depended on it.

I've been doing the same really, especially tonight, I was hoping to go to bed around 1AM. I found myself at a friend's house until 3:30AM.

On the subject of booze and weed, I've had friends claim that weed makes them sleepy and of course you can drink yourself into submission. Neither have happened to me. I kind of loathe it, as while friends will be passed out, I just keep drinking and not feeling like sleeping. Its the weirdest thing. Energy drinks or shots or whatever dont work on me either, maybe that's related to it.

A little bit of wine makes my sleep much easier to get into with no dehydration or headache in the morning. It's worth trying.

Wine gives me a pounding headache regardless of how much I drink.

Usually if I have insomnia, I drink a glass of milk, my mother always suggested it was a good idea.

I also think through things I'd like to one day write, and it usually helps, relinquishing your sense of sight and touch by just lying there in the darkness really helps me to immerse myself in my fictional worlds, and that's comforting enough to render me unconscious.

So maybe it's that, you need some new inspiration.. to sleep?

Inspiration to sleep I like.

To answer Sekto reasonably despite the fact I know he was joking, I don't drink 'cus I don't like the taste of alcohol. While my reasons for not intentionally dosing myself with poison are, on the other hand, grounded in religion.

I haven't done a lot with my days since I finished my job so maybe I do need to find ways to fill my time with activity; I'd say that has had a positive correlation to my ability to sleep soundly in the past. On the other hand, I've never found the consumption of assorted beverages to be very beneficial.

Because of Minecraft...my body clock has now set to Wisconsin time so I can get a project done with the person I'm working with XD

That means for the last 4 days I've been going to be at 3AM and waking up at about 1PM...not healthy and a waste of a day, I'll need to fix that on Monday.

Physical exercise proved to be good for me in the past right before sleeping. A good day's worth of physical labour is even better. Or simply a book that's more difficult to read and comprehend.

Ah, yes. The 11th Commandment; "Thou shalt not get high."

I'm afraid I can't quote a passage but there are various reasons - self-control is promoted, so avoid things that hinder it. Your body is God's temple so it should be respected.

a headache after a night of drinking, no matter how little, is a hangover. it may not be the worst, but it still is one. people are different, anyway. i mean personally i rarely get hangovers, i've always been like that, so sleeping while a little tipsy gives me no problems in the morning. if Splat decided to have a nightcap before bed, even though i know he wouldn't, he may or may not have problems in the morning. to be honest, i doubt he'd have problems.
