The Heartbreak Kid

Posted 08-03-2009 at 07:32 AM by OANST
I watched AI: Artificial Intelligence with Abbey and April yesterday. When the movie was over I looked at Abbey and noticed that her face was kind of scrunched up. I asked her if she was okay, and she replied with a very quiet "Yeah". I then saw a little tear stream down her cheek, so I told her that I also thought it was a very sad movie, and asked her if she wanted a hug.

She walked over to me, sat in my lap, put her head on my chest, and sobbed for a good five minutes. Broke my heart.

I remember crying after I saw that movie too. I must have been about her age. I think you're a really good father for bringing this kind of material into her life right now.

I was asleep because it's such a long movie.

Wait, is AI the one with MAWCAWLEY CULKIN or Robin Willims?

Bicentennial Man = Robin Williams. Right?

That also kicked ass.

I was more fucking confused than sad at the end.

Still cried.

A lot of people bitch, saying that the last twenty minutes of the film was added in to give it a happy ending. Those people are fucking stupid. That ending was not happy. Bittersweet is the best I would give it.

I haven't seen that film in ages. It wasn't bad. It was also quite sad. Such a weird idea for a film, though.

The bizarre ending is integral to the moral of the story, which is basically "To be human, you have to love and you have to die." But since it's inane bollocks, most people wish it were deleted forever, and the film ended with the boy underwater. Much more beautiful. But the ending was still sad. I'll repeat the point that you are a great parent for supporting her emotional development in this way.

I'm with Daxter King. I found that movie painful.

OANST: Leaving aside the sad ending, wasn't she disturbed by parts of the movie, especially the scenes with Jude Law?

We actually didn't catch the first half of the movie. But I bought it yesterday so that she could see the whole thing.

I vaguely remember my nickname at school being Gigalo Joe for a while after that movie came out, totally unjustified but I've had worse nicknames.
