Am I the only one here who truly finds no entertainment in video games in general? Seriously, I haven't been hooked on a video game in any form since around December. I've tried, but nothing grabs me anymore - not even the classics that I love. Every time that I try to just sit back, relax, and enjoy a video game, I just get bored and go do something else.

However, I do enjoy playing games with my friends. The other day, I went to my friends place and four of us played some Super Smash Bros. for the N64. It was a great time, but was this only do to the social interaction aspect rather than the actual game itself? Don't get me wrong, the game was great, but if I was to play it by myself I'd get bored.

After that, we played Star Wars: Pod Racing. After one race, I got bored. I simply didn't find it engaging, yet everyone else (who had grown up with the game) enjoyed the piss out of it. Must have been nostalgia. Strange how that can effect something so much, right?

Has anyone else ever enjoyed a game out of sheer nostalgia? I know I have.

Nostalgia dies for me as soon as the disc goes in if it's a bad game.

I just realized... is your name an homage to the PSA short "Lunchroom Manners"? Rifftrax did commentary of it.

You might find enjoyment in them again later on in the year. I sometimes get periods where I find little enjoyment in games and just don't play them for a while.

I've never been much interested in games. I mean, occasionally I'll play one and sometimes I might really like it, but I'm not an avid gamer.

I get hooked on games rather easily. I always like to play them to full completion.

I used to play Xbox a lot but I got bored since my Gears Of War 1 disc just got munched in the Xbox and all I could really play online on was Halo 3. It was alright, but after about 3000 matches and 300 custom games I got bored.
The custom games were great, but only because it was a full party (16 players I think) and the retarded game types like fat kid, and 30 days of nite (The guy who made it spelt it wrong). I suppose everyone got bored after a while (who wouldn't after 300 matches) and decided to go on GOW and COD.
I could of played COD, but at the time I was crap at it and I didn't like it anyway and I still had a broken GOW disc. So I didn't go on it for about a year.
So that number next to my name shouldn't really be a 3...
I have no idea why I didn't just go and buy another GOW disc, I was just generally bored with Xbox I think.
That and I've got a laptop with Oddworld, Quake and Doom.

You have Quake?

I need to play you online sometime.

Speaking of Quake, that's one game that can hold my interest, but not fully. I've been playing Quake 3 semi-regularly for almost a year because it's challenging, thought-provoking and generally fun.

Other than that, thinking games like Braid, Red Alert 2 and Portal 2 or games that are hard like Rayman keep me coming back for more. I also find games that have lots of content more addictive that smaller games. I avoid bland, repetitive looking shooty games because, while they're fun for a while I generally tire of them or their community of annoying 12 year olds.

So basically try games with lots of stuff or that people say are challenging because of the puzzles or skill-level required.

I tend to play mostly old games or car games.
I have Quake 1 with the OpenGL port (The graphics are better looking).
I have Quake Live (Just getting started though).
I play Doom I/II a lot on another OpenGL port.
I also have MK3/UMK3 acrade which is cool (MAME).

I'm on Xbox but I'll only really be on Forza 2/3 or DiRT 3 or Plants vs Zombies.

I play OW games for the nostalgia and some of my PS1 games will come out now and again but I prefer PC games to consoles.

I could do just by reading your writing out loud because you never use and commas so its just one long sentence and theres no where to breath so you would have to keep on going and going until you cannot go any more then you would die.

Says me! Exactly Dynamithix, says me! That's the gravity of this situation.

Come on, now. I've been shoving Frank Zappa down your throats more than I have Mr. Bungle for about a year.
But while we're at it, you need to listen to Disco Volante.

My interest in video games was severely diminished a long time ago. My interest rose during a brief period which I don't feel like talking about which is also the period I got onto internet forums. As soon as that was over, my interest plummeted again. I haven't played a video game for about eleven months, if not longer (apart from when I've been entertaining my nephew).

Frank Zappa was one of the few musicians known for rock music who actually had a complete understanding of every little thing he was doing musically (he was really a contemporary classical composer) and who was actually intelligent. Even if you listened to him and didn't like his music, you would probably appreciate his political activities.
A piece with a good balance of both rock and roll energy and classical complexity is the Black Page Drum Solo (played by Terry Bozzio) which is composed entirely in 4/4 but employs complex polyrhythms (like nested tuplets) which adds an incredible amount of interest to the piece.

If it was in the music thread, I pretty much steer clear.
