I had a rather worrying moment the other day. Whilst packing up at the end of a class, one of my students turned to me and said "So, I hear you're active on a certain website?"

I froze. I didn't know what to say. I mentally listed through all the members here to work out who he could possibly be. No matches. I don't know why I find it worrying that my students might find out about my internet life, but I do. I replied with a hesitant "What are you talking about?"

He said "You're on 4chan, right?"

Turns out my students are discussing me behind my back, after I happened to use the word 'weeaboo' in one of my other classes. And mispronounced it, I might add.

I informed him that, no, I am not and never have been a poster on 4chan. Also that the word has spread beyond its dark depths in to general internet vocabulary.

I then sighed in relief, my dark secret safe for the meantime.

I was worried someone I knew from school had found me on this sight once. I then asked the good Wil to erase my full name from the forums entirely.

So, why are you so anal about keeping the Forums-Nate a secret?

Because I posted under Kastere on /x/ a LONG ASS time ago, someone googled it, found my profile here, and basically fucked around with me (all in good fun) by posting various bits of personal info (real name, hometown, etc...)

I fear the day one of my friends might try to Google my gamertag, as I stupidly used it on forums in the past. I actually introduced another one of my friends to a forum I used to frequent, I'd never reveal OWF though. That shame is too great.

my mates aren't really e-literate, apart from a couple, but it only takes someone to put the first half of my email address in Google and up i fucking pop. here. i am incredibly uncomfortable with that. if there's a way to stop it, it would be greatly appreciated. i've had the same email since school, you see.

Here in Australia, the title 'Professor' is only given to academics with a certain level of administrative responsibility. So not any time yet and not likely in the future.

In all my years, only one person from OWF has recognized me on the street (and didn't say anything at the time) and a grand total of one person has asked me an Oddworld-related question outside of OWF. So I feel pretty secure in the disconnectedness of the real world and this place.

Most of my friends know I'm interested in Oddworld. Also, one girlfriend-of-friend is an Oddworldfan herself, which I realised when I saw MO and SW in her game collection. I invited her to join the forums, but she chose not to.

Unless she already has joined and hasn't revealed herself, eh Cat?
