Some lady called us looking for an estimate on her roof today. I take down all of her information, and then ask her when would be a good time for us to come out. She tells me that she doesn't need to be there. I try to explain to her that it's very difficult to give an accurate quote on something if we don't know what style they are looking for. She says that they just want a "regular" roof.

I spend a bit more time with her trying to explain how there is no such thing as a "regular"...

Last night I did a fire drill with Abbey. I want to make sure that she is prepared to get out of the house if anything were to happen. So I show her the route that I want her to take, make sure that she can unlock the door, and explain to her what the smoke detector will sound like. The more I explain it to her, the more I can tell that it is upsetting her.

We moved into our new house this past Sunday. It feels good to have that out of the way, and we really like the house. It's amazing how quiet the neighborhood is.

There is one slight problem. I didn't expect to get a twenty degree drop in temperature at almost the exact moment we moved in, and we haven't had our furnace installed yet. The furnace gets installed tomorrow, but fuck has it been cold in there the last couple of nights. The temp has been in the low 30's at night. Also,...

Today was Abbey's first day of school. It was pretty hard to stand there and watch as she was taken down the hall to her class. April and I were having some serious separation anxiety, as were many of the other kids. There were about a dozen kids that were just bawling.

Then there's Abbey. She just smiles, waves, says bye, and walks down the hall.

I don't quite know how to describe how I feel about this.

We closed on the house today. I now reside in a beautiful, mostly crime free neighborhood, with the highest ranked public schools in the state. Well, I don't reside there yet. We'll be moving in at the end of the month.
