Museum beetles, goddam butterflies.

A year's worth of being turned down for work could get a guy down. But not me! An obvious solution presented itself: to offer my services for free. Hooray! Not great for finances, but who needs money in this bright new age of pennilessness and social collapse?

So I approached the nearby-yet-two-hour-bus-ride-away Maidstone Museum unsolicited and unqualified to provide my assistance. Okay, not entirely true, an old friend of mine from primary school works with them. Still, turning...

Millions Of Barrels Of Oil Safely Reach Port In Major Environmental Catastrophe

Disaster strikes as massive quantities of oil reach their intended destination.

PORT FOURCHON, LA—In what may be the greatest environmental disaster in the nation's history, the supertanker TI Oceania docked without incident at the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port Monday and successfully unloaded...

I'm going to Switzerland for a few days. An acquaintance needs a package delivered with minimal fuss, and offered board in his Swiss home if I moved it for him. The less questions I ask, the longer I get to stay. Good deal!

See you in a week.

Highest peaks, lowest depths.

What I like about this one is that they put the Deepwater Horizon oil rig on it. Now you can see why it's so difficult to fix it.

Squirrel

Posted 06-02-2010 at 04:52 AM by Bullet Magnet
My maternal grandparents live next-door to my dad's house (my childhood home). I was sitting in their back room playing with my two-and-a-half-year-old cousin Dylan when he chanced to look outside at the garden.

"Look at that squirrel eating the bird food!" he observed.

So I did.

"Oh yes," said I, laying my eyes upon a humongous rat.

So yeah. Rats now.

The joys of spring.

Ah, spring. A season of life and rejuvenation, new beginnings, and a visceral preview of the lowest bowels of Hell.

Buggers half an inch long, emerging from stagnant pools all along the river in the woods. They were fascinating at first, feeding exclusively on the sugar-rich ooze from the phloems of plants, but then they began to mate. Suddenly, the females needed raw protein to build their eggs, and they all know where to get it.

An ignoble return.

Hello, my querulous friends. I have been too long away from you all. Or perhaps not long enough. I will soon find out.

My time in absentia has bent spent well, for a certain definition of "well". Cleaning mossy cars and long-forgotten recesses of my old and filthy house. Getting in people's way by mistake and design. Engaging in mighty battles with the public transport system. Attending counselling with fair-to-moderate enthusiasm. Suffering wanton abuse at the hands of a...

To the House Republicans of Iowa state: what the fuck?

Posted 02-06-2010 at 01:00 PM by Bullet Magnet
Representatives Shultz and Windschitl have introduced House File 2291, a bill that excludes LGBT students from the protection of the Safe Schools Law, effectively legalising the bullying and harassment of those students.

I don't see it ever being successful, even if by some ground-shaking leave of intelligence in Iowa allows it's passing, the Supreme Court will shoot it down with prejudice. Won't they?

Jesus Christ.
