Of dreams and dream emulators...

Posted 01-06-2009 at 08:36 PM by Ajiellyn
My recurring dream is about getting ready in the morning.

It happens extremely often that I dream of getting up, getting dressed, getting ready, even showering, and then get up to actually have to do it all over again. It's torturous really, because at the end of the dream I'm like 'ah, I'm ready, now I can go.' But surprise, it has to happen all over again.

I'd like to believe in dream analysis (I'm one of those people who has the logic to dismiss horoscopes as rubbish but ALWAYS checks them in the paper...) so I'm wondering if it means anything. I guess it just means that I dread getting ready, or something (because I do.)

Lucid dreams have also been of interest to me lately. A lucid dream is one in which you know that you are dreaming and you can control what happens in it. It sounds amazing, but it's true, I've tried it. One Saturday night I dreamed of being in school and, in the dream, I made the critical note that this wasn't possible-- it was Saturday! Everything suddenly changed. The hallway I was in disappeared, I walked around the staircase, and there was blankness, I remember it green. I knew about lucid dreams and I tried to make myself fly-- it worked.

Of course I had already committed the #1 DO NOT DO of lucid dreaming: do NOT get overexcited, or it will end right away. I woke up.

There are techniques to help yourself lucid dream, for example, making a habit of thinking 'am I dreaming?' throughout the day, even though it sounds stupid. I can't be assed to practice, however.

Dream emulators?

I want to share (if I haven't already) a terrifying little game which was never released outside of Japan, called LSD: Dream Emulator. It is based on a dream diary that someone kept for 10 years (I believe) and the gameplay just involves you walking around in areas which are randomized in sound and events. As you play, it gradually seems to get worse.

The game was released for the PS1 and it is almost impossible to find. There are many videos of its play on Youtube, however, so knock yourself out.

You used to be able to buy these goggles that sensed when you were in REM sleep and flashed LEDs at you so you'd wake just enough to lucid dream. Probably not all that healthy, when you come to think of it, because the body needs REM sleep to be well rested.

The reality of the thing is, if you don't already lucid dream, it's fucking difficult to start. One of those 'people who want it never seem to get it' situations.

I want a lucid dream. I can then escape reality and go into a world of my own. To start off with, my best friend and I will be the only males on the planet.

Trouble is, as Leto said, people who want it never seem to get it.

It's not so much "When I dream I can create the world around me!", it's more "I'm conscious of everything that's happening, and I can change it whenever I please, usually by massive almost flying jumping"

I dunno.. My dreams are weird. I'm sure it's not lucid dreaming, but Im usually able to control them and I've been able to fly in my dreams since I was little. Sometimes I'm like: I know this is a dream so I'll just do this!
But it still feels like a dream and I'm still half-fooled into believing it's not a dream. But it's cool when I can control stuff. it helps get the bad guys off my back <.<
I love flying though.

I've only been conscience of my dreams a few times in my life. Most of the time, I woke up shortly after realizing I was dreaming. It really sucks not being able to induce lucid dreams because lucid dreams seem like the ultimate escape. What's the toil of daily life compared to your own private universe that you can maniplulate?

I love to lucid dream. It doesn't happen all the time but when I realize I'm dreaming I'm all, "Oh sweet. -Goes flying around.-" xD And sometimes in my dreams I have memories I've never had before. My dreams bother me so much sometimes I think I must've been reincarnated multiple times, if those exist.

I remember one time.. I had a dream like yours. I got up, got ready, and woke up. Irritated, I did it all over again, ONLY TO WAKE UP AGAIN. I sat there for a few minutes making sure I was really awake that time. I hate dreaming within dreams sometimes.
