If this... creature, this idiot woman, is ever allowed to take the vice-presidential job, a heart beat away from the leader of the free world... we're screwed. As a species. We are unfortunate enough to find ultimate political, social, environmental, scientific and educational disaster looming upon us without any true means of escape from this planet.


This pretentious clod is criticising fruit fly research? The fruit fly, one of the most important animal models for evolutionary, genetic and ontological research? Animal models are essential for such research. Does Palin expect us to mutagenise human mothers and pull a Sylar on their babies instead?

Fruit flies are extremely useful to science, given their short generational period and the numbers that can be produced. Some of the most powerful tools in genetics and molecular biology are available in fruit flies. Molecular genetics reveals that thanks to our shared evolutionary heritage (something else this astonishingly ignorant woman denies) we and all other animals, including fruit flies, share the same basic developmental toolkit, so we can use these organisms to study the mechanisms that underlie the development of the nervous system, for instance.

Why the nervous system, you ask? Well, recent research in fruit flies at the University of North Carolina has led to valuable discoveries that have boosted autism research. Why mention autism? As I recall from Governor Palin's first policy speech:

For many parents of children with disabilities, the most valuable thing of all is information. Early identification of a cognitive or other disorder, especially autism, can make a life-changing difference.
A rare example of intelligence there from Governor Palin, I wonder who was writing that for her?

Please, if there are any registered US voters here who were actually considering voting Republican this time around, please, I beg you, reconsider. Keep this this blind, shortsighted ignoramus AS FAR FROM THE WHITE HOUSE AS POSSIBLE.

I cannot stress this enough.

Remember this: Stupid people in the White House are surrounded by many more intelligent people telling them what to think. Now, those people may well be the spawn of pure evil also, but I'm sure one or two of them might have some knowledge of why scientific research is done on Fruit Flies.

Of course I don't want McCain/Palin to win, but if they do I'm not too afraid for the flies.

It's not that, it's that she deliberately belittles incredibly valuable scientific research when she has no idea what it is about at all. The only research that she in her ignorance would recognise as valuable in such fields she is actually vehemently opposed to anyway.

On top of that, she's using it as part of her campaign. And it's working. People agree with it. And that's just horrifying.

I know, I was just making a GI Joe joke. Being serious I completely agree with you. All politicians should have get an electric shock to the brain when they tell a lie and an electric shock to the groin when they rely on an appeal to ignorance.
