I got a trojan.

Google "Trojan horse FakeAlert.AO," and you'll see what I have.


ADAWAAAAAAARE!

For those of you who don't know what Adaware does:

Just about everyone I know has gotten a trojan in the last month. It's odd; there's usually something in the news when a particularly bad virus is going around. This time everyone seems to be keeping mum.

I didn't get a -real- trojan. I got a virus that causes pop-ups saying that I have a trojan, and that these people can magically make it go away, for a price...


So instead, I trusted my current means of fighting off viruses.

Voodoo witch doctors.

I have a virus that is so new that not only was it first seen today BUT my existing virus scanners cannot kill it, only contain it and when I search on google I get nothing but Japanese webpages.

Beat that.

I had a REAL virus which forced me to use Olbas to unblock my nose.

News report: After trying to kill it for two hours with all my virus scanners blazing I left it on its own for fifteen minutes and came back to find it had killed itself.

Yeah, that's what happened for us too, although one case said there was spyware rather than a trojan.

I just spent most of today reinstalling Windows on a computer of someone who attempted to remove the trojan themselves instead of calling in someone who knew what they were doing. Dang.
