I'm always surprised at how many people actually remember playing Oddworld on PS1 in Australia. I never expect people to know what I'm talking about so I suppose it was quite popular here.

When I joined 8 years ago (nearly a decade in this hell hole) it was a pretty big circle jerk and I dont recall there being as many Brits. I don't think any niche fanbase exists without any kind of circle jerk, especially when OWI were as dormant as they were.

Circle jerks are only bad for the people who aren't prepared to get their dick out.

I'm a brit, and I'd like to think I've never contributed to the "circle-jerk" atmosphere of OWF. I've shared heated comments every now and again, but I tried to avoid the nastyness "back in the day" as it were. People might think differently though. I could be a jerk!

There's no circle-jerk, but there's definitely a cuntish atmosphere, and that's how we like it. It's very British. This is just how we behave in Britain. We're all mates, really.

Also I like that it makes the yanks uncomfortable.

yeah you're not wrong. i just tried to think of all the Canadian members i've met on here and all i can come up with is yourself, Moot and Mac. that's it. i thought we had at least a few more than that. i must be forgetting some people, surely.

even when we were all complete trolls a few years back the circle jerk was never exclusive to just the Brits, at the time there were just as many active American members as there were British, plus a mixture of other countries on top of that. to blame OWF 'atmosphere' on a single nationality is crass. we all contributed. well, most of us. like Connell said, some people just stayed out of the way back then. i don't blame them.

yeah back then OANST, Pilot, DI, Sekto, Daxter, Dipstikk and Used were active and they're all American, and that's without including moxco, ASR and SB who are still active. at the time i thought there were more Americans than British too but in reality there was probably more or less an even mixture.

this is true. i mean, what else are we supposed to do? any activity we made/make could be interpreted as a circle jerk, but we need to keep ourselves entertained somehow. so, really, a circle jerk is just us interacting with each other, like how forums are supposed to work.

although, having said that, we were pretty hostile/xenophobic back then. so yeah, maybe circle jerk is the best description.

Although saying that. I'm not sure on blaming all of the hostile atmosphere on Brits is really called for. Generalization is fucking stupid. And I would like to say I do try to improve this place somewhat. It gets blown back in my face sure, But at least I try!

I feel like British self-loathing isn't something that translates very well to non-native English speakers, or even just outside the UK.
