Composing Game Music

Hi everyone, Long time no blog. Not that it matters. Anyway, for the past few years i've been playing with music editing/writing software, and am currently using Logic Pro X. Still very amateur at it, but i'm progressing. I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in hearing some of my work. I already know that my compositions are not amazing, but for someone who cannot actually read music, i am proud of myself for being able to write and learn my own pieces from scratch. This piece is inspired by David Wise, who has worked on titles such as 'Donkey Kong Country', 'Banjo Kazoo' and is currently working on a new title called 'Yooka-Laylee'. 3D Platformers are not everyone's cup of tea but i enjoy them, and the music is catchy and uplifting. 	I'd recommend trying out different DAWs. Logic isn't very intuitive, especially for beginners. I'd recommend trying FL Studio or Ableton (what I use) to experiment with different workflows. Find one that suits you. This is pretty good for a beginner, though. I don't think the string leads have enough high end, I'd bring them up a little with a high shelf.

	I tried FL Studio and it confused the hell out of me. Logic has been easy for me to use, and it is more compatible with my Mac than FL Studio is. Thanks for the tip

	I'm confused. You posted only 1 video, seemingly from YOOKA-LAYLEE. So it's not yours, is it?

	That is my own composition. It is in the style of Yooka Laylee.

	You should put a stronger emphasis on that. As an outside viewer, somebody might confuse it with legit YY OST

	I'm confused, i stated that it was my composition, and it's got my name on the video still too. Besides it is not near as good as the OST to the game.

	Yeah, here. But I mean, looking at the youtube video name. Nevermind. About the song: I actually think it's good. The only thing I'd change is the choice of an instrument playing lead parts at 4:00. That kinds of midi bends sound very '90s, not in a good way. I think the song reminds me of Rayman OST more. Rayman has a gorgeous soundtrack.

	The track loops at 02:07.. So do you mean the lead instrument at 00:15? If not then there might be a looping error. This track isn't finished, I've posted it places to hear things like what you just told me. I want to make this as good as i can. Thanks for the feedback

	Yeah, it repeats. The very same as at 0:15. The one that sounds like a guitar midi preset

	Yeah, id love to hear more. I love Video game osts far more than regular music.

	I've been playing around with the instruments, and instead of the lead guitar, i've tried clarinets, as it sounds more like something Donkey Kong/Banjo Kazooie would use. Still not perfect, but i think it's sounding better..

	It does sound better, but I don't like that soundbank too much, still. The clarinet as a choice sounds better, but you can find a better samples of clarinet than this one

	I know i can find better sounds, but i don't have a lot of money to spend, and decent sound banks cost a lot of money, so i'm doing the best with what i have got.
