Swimming a mile

Posted 04-04-2015 at 08:21 AM by Holy Sock
At the start of March I decided I needed to get off my lazy ass and become regularly active after a 7 year hiatus. I started swimming again (hadn't been in a pool for about 4 years) and have been doing it every alternate day since. For the first few weeks I just tried to keep myself active for an hour - and slowly began to remember the correct techniques - but my stamina was shot to shit.

So I find a programme that's designed for any swimmer to swim a mile in 6 weeks.

Here's the website

Since I'm in the UK I use metres instead of yards. I just wrapped up the first day of Week Two earlier and by the end I'll hopefully be able to swim 1650m (or 66 lengths of a 25m pool) without taking a rest.

I also took the opportunity to start eating a lot healthier. It's a lot easier to improve one aspect of your life after improving another.

Anyway, I feel a lot better physically and I guess my mood is a bit better these days. So if any of you are still putting off exercise, healthy eating or whatever you should really force yourself to do it now. Soon enough you'll develop the motivation and it will stop feeling like a chore.

If any of you like swimming, can swim, or would like to start I'd really recommend using this little programme. It's a lot better than the unstructured hours I was doing a month ago.

I never had anything interesting to blog about before and I thought I'd save you all from pointless posts showcasing my hilarious wit. "You don't have anything interesting to blog about now, either" - I hear Varrok saying.

You guys seem like pretty decent, albeit troubled, people and I do like posting here. I figured if one of you would benefit from reading this that wouldn't be so bad.
