BIMMY'S GETTIN FRUSTRATED
I had a fine Christmas. Merry Christmas, Oy Gevalt, Happy Holidays, Allahu Ackbar, etc... Equal greetings for all cultures I know next to nothing about.
I won't bore you with what I received, but it was mostly movies, books and clothing. I got a Sriracha Sauce shirt that makes me look like a giant spice boy. Also a collection of the first 5 issues of Southern Bastards, a gritty-as-hell comic book. Also also, I got a movie called BRIDE OF THE GORILLA, amongst others. It's a Grampa Munster release.
Typically I occupy myself in front of one screen or another for the holidays, I avoid contributing to the overhaul of cooking, cleaning and decorating that the family engages in, but this year I put my best foot forward and did a load of baking to replace roughly 5,000 cookies that I ate, one at a time, in a single sitting.
It's one thing to have Christmas inflicted upon you; it's the hopeful inevitability that yes, it will happen and very soon after it will be over. Placing myself smack dab in the process of helping it to happen smoothly was rather exhausting I found, but additionally very fulfilling.
I'm fat again, as best can be described. Fatter than I've been in some time, but it will pass soon enough. I like to sit in a comfortable in between of 'able to escape from danger' and 'generally huggable, odor notwithstanding', so I need to shave off a few pounds.
Hopefully I can drop some bulk before New Years, as the witch I'm dating/seeing will probably be spending that with me and I'd like to look as close to svelte as my strange build will allow me. And yes, she is a practicing wiccan. In the past (and presently) I scoff at the whole idea, but she's interesting and very pretty and otherwise she's very sharp. We bonded over a mutual distaste for several terrible films. This is nothing serious, and we're 500KM apart most of the time, but it's precisely what I need. No terrible falsehoods under the hood with this one, she was direct and honest and that's what counts. She's older, but there is literally no drawbacks to that in my mind.
Enough about what many of you probably think is my hand wearing a tiny pointed hat. I've been thinking about changing my surname, as the family it's associated with is about as active in my life as I've been at the gym lately. It's a surprisingly simple process, but I've got to consider it carefully. It's not just a cosmetic change, it reflects a decision to operate my life in a different way. I need to know I'm ready to do that before I start ascribing federal documentation to it.
I've been reading lately. My attention span is considerably hardier so I've picked up some unfinished Discworld books and breezed through them. I always prefer reading about Vimes, I guess I can relate to an over-the-hill racist cop more easily than some people. I'm also fond of Detritus, and need to find a copy of Bonk.
I recommend anyone interested in comics or perhaps True Detective and noir in general to check out Southern Bastards. It's really terrific and paints a vivid picture of backwater humanity.
