Abe isn't the typical hero that everyone looks up to. He is himself and it shows that anybody can be good. You don't have to be a hot macho guy like most other games' lead characters, or look cool or cute, again, like many other games' lead characters. You just have to be who you are, as long as you care about something, the little hope you have and some self-confidence can get you through the toughest times.

I think that relates well to minority groups. Also, Abe's a weird alien thing, and I guess a lot of gay people once considered themselves abnormal.

Also, gay people evolved from birds, so they empathise with Abe.

A couple of people on the previous page suggested that the androgyny of the Oddworld characters makes them attractive to gay people. The thing is... I don't really consider Abe and Munch androgynous. They're both masculine in their demeanour and voices.

There's a difference between androgyny and asexuality (Abe) and hermaphroditism (Munch, I think?).
