I Came Out

Posted 07-31-2014 at 12:02 PM by STM
Fucking lord why is it always so awkward!

Well any way, yeah my Mum and Dad now know. My brother already knew but came down into the living room to show some support. Mum was fine with it, apparently she already had an inkling I might not be straight, which was a little embarrassing for some reason. Dad just rolled his eyes and went back to watching the rugby, not sure what that means.

It just sucks things won't be the same any more, like I've changed forever in their eyes, no matter what that means, I'm not the same Aidan I was thirty minutes ago. Any way yeah, so they know I'm pansexual now. What a fucking bizarre evening.

That's pretty much it. I like men/ women/ straight/ gay/ MtF/ FtM/ androgynous and rabid ferret peens.
TBH I would've just told them I was bi.

I know it's not exactly the same thing, but in practice it works identically, and you don't have to follow your coming-out speech with a what-I'm-coming-out-as-actually-means speech.

The better choice for whatever you come out as I guess really just depends on the overall situation. I do know a lot of people who if you don't specify you're attracted to everything will flip the fuck out on you if you're attracted to someone that's out of the "binary" or whatever the fuck you want to call it if you came out as bi.

Most people just assume bi and pansexual are the same though so in every other case it doesn't matter and bi is just the easier choice for the exact reason MM said.

This isn't really my area, but if having a trans girlfriend makes a guy something other than heterosexual, that's really depressing.

I mean, I know not everyone's attracted to women with dicks, but I thought it was just like not liking fat chicks, or gingers

That's how I view it and it kind of grosses me out that people assume because whoever you're with is trans your sexuality is invalid because "oh but they're not REALLY that, are they"*

But that's how a lot of people view it and I'd assume in regards to someone who's actually trans that by someone openly stating their gender/sex status has no effect on the persons potential attraction of them with a certain sexuality label it provides a lot more comfort and removes a lot of anxieties that could be there otherwise.

*for the record, i don't consider trans as being out of the binary. I was mostly referring to neutral/androgynous/whatever

Before I'm gonna say what I'm about to say I'll clarify with this:

I absolutely agree that it sucks some people will still see trans people as the gender they were born into, rather than what they actually are (and after they have had copious amounts of mental and physical modification to correct that).

I think sometimes if the surgery is done in such a way that the trans person still has a tone of masculinity/ femininity left over, some people simply can't get by that. Also if the person is trans but maybe doesn't want the op to get their dick lopped off or stuck on, there's another reason to brand them by their gender of birth. I suppose some of it is down to confusion and whatever you want to say about transgenderism, it's still an uncommon thing to see.

I don't fucking know, man. People are cunts.

That would probably require me to both post and moderate a lot, so not if I can avoid it!

Congratulations! I hope that's a weight off your mind, and I'm glad your parents aren't so closed-minded.

Most people will describe others in terms that are convenient for them and that they understand. Some people are ridiculously stubborn about these things. I'll never truly understand why some people go out of their way to tell someone else who they should or shouldn't be attracted to.

I just did it because my brother and I always joke about being gay. My brother is straight but he's always going on about Leonardo diCaprio being his man crush. I join in of course but it feels kinda weird, almost like I'm lying, especially if I say anything in front of my parents. But now I can mince all over the shop and feel unrestricted.
