Hail to the bus driver
Posted 07-18-2014 at 01:21 PM by JennyGenesis
Today, I had fantastic news, I've been accepted by Stagecoach to be a bus driver for them, I am absolutely over the moon to be able to get this job as it's been my dream job since I was a very very young child.
As I was studying at university, I took on a part time job for Dominos Pizza as a delivery driver, since I left university I started working full time hours. However, I only took on the full time hours to give myself a full time job whilst I look for better paying work as it's only a minimum wage job. I only managed to find one job that I felt I had a chance of being accepted for, but never heard back from them, would have been a great job for me as it was a role of managing a website for a car dealer. As I continued to look through job websites I saw a Stagecoach depot advertising for drivers, with or without a PCV Licence (A licence required to drive a bus). So I applied, received a letter with the Stagecoach logo on it, got all excited, and they told me they didn't want me, I was so mega pissed off, but randomly a week later, I receive a call, it's a lady telling me that she is calling from Stagecoach asking if I'm still interested in the position, so I told her yes and she invited me for a job interview. So the interview went in two parts, first I had to sit a test, it was a basic english and maths test, and then a test on the highway code, then I had my interview with the depot manager, it went smoothly, we ended up for a bit talking about the fleet that the depot has and some of the buses, right down to the nitty gritty of engines and gearboxes (My type of nerdy convo), suddenly he looks at his watch and he goes, oh god time is flying by, right lets get back to business, and then continues to ask me some more questions. He then ends the interview by saying, we have more interviews today but my secretary will phone you tomorrow to let you know if you have gotten the job. I went out with friends tonight when suddenly, the depot manager himself phones me to tell me that I've got the job, now all I need to do is wait to be contacted again so I can have my medical exam with the doctor. I somehow suspect that the fact we managed to trail away from the interview and had a casual conversation about the buses may have swung it for me and it went smoothly, just like having a conversation with someone you have known for years. Im so over the moon that I finally got my dream job, and as for people like crashpunk who may have sadly lost their job and are looking for work, I know how you feel, it's disheartening being unemployed and constantly being turned down for jobs, but something unexpected will arise, look what happened to me, they said they didn't want me and then invited me for interview, so I assume they interviewed other people but didn't find enough people that they wanted to hire. So after my medical, I then start my training for my PCV licence which takes about 3 weeks, and I will be on full time pay throughout that with my 40 Hour week contract. |
