Redundancy

Yup.

I've been made redundant from my job. I sorta knew it would happen since my job role involved me being an apprentice, but I hoped they would keep me on after I finished it. And I thought they would as well...

Fucking sucks. I love my job and I love the staff. The best thing is that I got to travel around the UK. Fantastic.

I've got 3 weeks left, then I'm back on the doll. unless something comes up. And I'm preying it does.

On the bright side, this job has given me a shit ton of experience and I can make my CV look billions times better then my old one. It should make me finding a new job a lot easier.

I'm sorry to hear it dude, that sucks.

Though as you said, the experience will allow you to get a new job more easily. You have an upper hand!

I'm assuming being redundant means something like getting fired but not for any fault of yours. So unless I'm wrong, sorry to hear that.

Kinda. It means your role is no longer available within the business so the company have no choice but to let you go. That is unless they make another role for you or that a job is available for you to try and get.

Oh I didn't mention it did I? I'm pretty much training my replacement. What a kick in the teeth.

That seems... questionably legal. You might want to look in to that.

I've been made redundant in the past. It fucking sucks. Good luck out there!

Wait up. If your job has been made redundant why have you got a replacement? Sounds like they may be taking advantage of cheap apprentice labour to me.

I think it's a legal grey area. If both of them were already employed and they needed to get rid of one of them, I believe it's legally fine for them to retrench the one who was paid more. But if the replacement was specifically hired to fill in Crashpunk's position, that'd definitely be illegal in Australia. Not sure about elsewhere.

My replacement is an apprentice, just like I was. specifically hired to replace me.

Y'see the company trains apprentices and then finds them a job somewhere else. I so happen to find a job within the company and my role is apparently for apprentices. Now i'm not one. Bye bye job.

Yes my contact ran out. I get that. But it seems like they don't want to even try to keep me. Which sucks after everything I did for them. I was there when the company were making big changes and I so happen to fall into the situation when I was doing various other tasks. Stupid, boring errands and all that but it's helpful for an office. I became the go to guy, along with my co-worker who is also an apprentice. I'm pretty sure he'll lose his job in the end as well.

Instead of offering me a different role, why not just let me keep my fucking job? Pull some strings, make the role for me! We're already understaffed!

I'm not wanting to sound egotistical or anything but damn that company needs me. We're a tiny IT team and I'm the one with a lot of experience. We have tons of stuff to do in the next few months so the timing couldn't be any worse for them. I just hope. I pray they figure that out. otherwise, they'll be suck with my inexperienced replacement.

So MoxCo is right. Taking advantage of cheap apprentice labour.

3 Weeks to go. In tomorrow. I'm going to spend every day convincing them that they need me to stay.

My boss isn't here today. What a surprise. I'm left here training my replacement.

I love this world.
