I mean Native is pretty much perfect but damn let's get a bit more variety. Industrial is cool too but the rest seem pretty shit. Plus I thought they were gonna happen!

I'd do one myself if people didn't mind me submitting it in stages. So at the start it'd pretty much be block colours. That way it's easier to take a break, and people can just nag for specific changes.

Ugh I still wanna do this but I have other things I need to focus on doing first and also vBulletin’s skinning documentation is non-existent and also testing a skin is nigh impossible without having a vBulletin install of the right version and also maybe Alcar is moving us to another forum software at some point and I just

I've actually been secretly tinkering with designs for forum skins for the past week or so. I only told Manco about it BUT NOW THE CAT'S OUT OF THE BAG

I think they're turning out pretty nicely. Doesn't mean they can be easily implemented when they're done, though.

Alcar has been talking about changing the forum software for at least five years. Don't count on it happening any time soon.

Having fiddled around with the forum code a little since the last update broke things, I'd suggest not really bothering with updating the theme until Alcar gives me or Wil server access, so that we can download all the images in a given theme and you can simply design new ones in-place. That'd be a hell of a lot simpler than dealing with code.

Alternatively, you can download a free vBulletin theme and make changes to that. Seriously, don't try and write code. Just... don't.

Can't we just, like, delete everything and start from scratch? We haven't written anything interesting here in these 13 years anyway and keep the old forums (closed) like OWI did at the time with their old website?

Actually coding together a theme from scratch will let us come up with new designs that make the forum better suited to modern browsers and devices. The code for existing themes is already way outdated and janky, and it’s only going to get worse as browsers get more advanced and new types of devices come out.

Dealing with the code is only hard right now because you’re trying to reverse-engineer really old shit to fix a few bugs. If we start from scratch and know how to plug the code into vBulletin’s system properly (or if we switch to a newer, better-documented forum system), it should be easy.

Are you seriously suggesting that there is not even one single theme for vBulletin out on the internet that isn't outdated and janky?

and know how to plug the code into vBulletin’s system properly
Aye, there's the rub.

I was only talking about the themes we have installed here, not all vBulletin themes in existence. Sure, we could tear up some other theme out there, but that depends on finding one that has the right setup.

but what about the janky, Manco? what about the janky? we need that janky. a theme is not a theme without a certain level of jank. get the janky.
