Don't you hate it when people post obnoxious text at the top of their blog and you have to scroll past it every time you want to read what they've posted? Man, I really hate that.

1963

November 1963 was one of the most important months in (fairly) recent history. On Friday the 22nd of November, John F Kennedy, President of America was assassinated while travelling though Dallas, Texas.
But overshadowing that completely was the fact that the following day, the first ever episode of Doctor Who was released, which of course completely changed the world; Doctor Who is the longest running science fiction series in history, putting anything those yanks have produced to shame. Doctor Who put Britain back on the map, turning many actors into stars and creating any number of iconic images, a big, blue box not the least of them.

Strangely enough, not everyone seemed to agree that this momentous occasion completely overshadowed anything less important that may have happened the day before (Time, after all, is relative) and so the BBC decided to air the first episode a second time the following weekend, by which point no one could remember how to spell Kennedy and subsequently lost all interest in his cessation (as is the way with Mass Media). This reduced the mother of my best friend to tears because she'd waited in terror all week to find out what had happened to the noble TARDIS crew, only to have to watch the first episode a second time.

And from there, the Daleks were only four weeks away...

I was concerned about my history teacher for a minute there.

Paaaaants. I thought it right and typed it wrong.

Oh, and I think Philip Larkin wrote a poem about 1963, but I didn't like it very much.

I love how the British feel like they have to be in competition with us Yanks when we couldn't care less what you people do.

You seem to, as you keep remaking our successful sitcoms and ruining them because you don't have any good original ones. (I.e. The Inbetweeners, Friday Night Dinner, the Office etc.)

Just throwing in my two cents that the US Office is much better than the UK one. There were funny moments in Gervais' original but the US one is consistently funny.

You two would think that, though. I'm not saying the US one is bad, but the original IS better. I'll also have you know that the only reason the US one isn't bad is because Ricky is still in charge of it.

They're both brilliant, but I thought the UK Office had a lot more laugh-out-loud moments.

Bull shit. You're only saying that because you're British and hurr durr Britain is de bezt. Come on, man. The comedy is just...better in the US version!

Also, completely fucking off topic:

Thanks for reminding me, Goodfellas.
