Ode to Somebody I'll Never Know

You were in front of me in the queue,
Wearing shorts in the rain.
It was difficult not to stare at you.
(though tbh you looked pretty plain)

I'm glad you didn't go to the same film as me.
Cause you would've been a distraction.
You and your god damn muddy shoes and soccer shirt.

I wouldn't have been able to watch the movie.
It wouldn't have been nearly as much fun.
Just because of you and your socks smeared with dirt.

Y'all need to read up on kireji.

A boisterous breeze goes by

Follows 5-7-5 format, I don’t see the problem.

English language haikus are so hilariously banal.

At least then you know she can read, unlike most of my generation.

Since when did you interact with people in the real world enough to make statements about your whole generation?

This is true, but they actually work on a level in Japanese because of how the Japanese language is structured.

Ever tried to read a book by Kafka or Nietzsche? Because the German language is so different to English, the writing style (Not to mention Nietzsche's little poems and shit) fall completely flat in translation. And that's with how close German and English are. It's much worse with Japanese, especially since poems are so heavily dependent on style over substance anyway.

There are some language which consist more of longer words and it's a bit harder to write haiku in these languages

I was actually quite interested in picking up Japanese. There are quite a few language I'd like to be fluent in and I'm hoping the uni I end up in (if I end up in one) has some sort of course. It's a pretty poetic sounding language.

Trust me, you cannot presume to speak for our generation. It's like when people say, 'most of our generations music is shit'. No. No. You just listen to what the radio plays, go and find the multitude of good music that exists.

I speak for Gen Y, for Gen Y has no brains.
And I'm telling you, sir, Gen Y is a drain.

The majority of Gen Y does kinda suck. My Facebook newsfeed which is infested with assholes I went to high school with can vouch for this.

Every generation sucks in their own way. Gen Z will either learn from the mistakes of Gen Y or be significantly worse.

Either way, I'll be enduring the next few generations indoors, habitually sticking my head out the window to tell kids to get off my lawn (which may or may not be a holographic space lawn).

The Japanese language pretty much consists of homonyms and clever wordplay as the amount of phonemes in it are few and tightly structured.

In Japanese, crafting a poetic sounding phrase from a limited number of syllables is a great show of imagination and lexical adaptability. in English it's just something hipsters do to sound cultured and foreign.

Also, before I get accused of being a weeaboo somehow, take into account that a limerick would be absurd in Japanese.

See, that makes sense, I always thought that Haiku's were stupidly plain. I didn't think about the Japanese version, you know, as you say, limited phonetic spectrum and such. TIL!

You do realise that you're in Generation Y, right? The majority of Gen Y are in their late 20s or early 30s.
