Coincidence?

I'm sure most of you have heard me rant about my Windows computer breaking a few weeks ago somewhere. That was just a general SSD failure and it was still under warranty, so other than a few hundred hours of video game saves that I didn't have backups of there was no great loss. Yesterday I got the computer back bigger and better than ever, boasting an OCZ 256Gb Vertex 4 SSD, 1.8Tb HDD and a shiny new nVidia GTX 670.
Naturally today it had a fit and starts behaving erratically. Something has gone horribly, horribly wrong. APPDATA has disappeared from my environment variables and that's making Windows very confused. I tried re-adding it, but after rebooting it just disappeared again. I think this must be a registry thing. Whatever it is it's beyond my understanding and I have no idea what to do.
This kind of weird thing always happens to me on computers. In the computer room in our music centre at school I often get spontaneous memory corruption errors in Sibelius across many different computers. I know of two other people that have had that happen to them, once each.
My dad has the same thing. When he used to work on a computer in his days as a banker he had to use a rubber mat to stop him from frying the computer. On a similar vein I touched the plastic casing of a laptop once and recieved an electric shock. Between my dad and I we have some of the weirdest computer errors I've ever heard of. We both have seen several instances of booting to find the Windows icons are randomly swapped within their containing dll. My dad used to have a folder full of strange screenshots until he lost them in a strange saga of and old computer slowly dying away.
We always joke that I inherited this from him. Lots of the things that happen to us are just so nonsensical it actually seems like the most logical explanation.
