So after months of job hunting, I finally got myself a job!
I'm a delivery driver for my local Dominos branch, I was lucky to get the job, a friend had put on Facebook how she got a job working at the counter there, a friend commented asking if they had vacancies, she said they were only looking for drivers, so yesterday I dropped in my application form and they called me back 2 hours later wanting an interview right then.
So I did my first day today, I went out with another driver for 2 deliveries to learn the ropes, which we cocked up, (will explain what went wrong later). Then I did a delivery with a driver to accompany me then I was on my own for the rest of the night.
Wages aren't amazing, I earn minimum wage per hour (Which is approx £5.00 an hour for my age) plus extra for every delivery I make, but hey, finally got a job and income, been trying to find a job for months, so I'm happy I'm doing something now! I also get £1 cash in hand per deliveries for petrol costs. I did 6 deliveries tonight, 2 with another driver, then 4 on my own, so I earned £4 cash in hand.
Tips are going to be hard to come by, in today's computer age, nearly every order that comes in is paid by card online, I only had 1 cash delivery and the guy didn't tip me.
Now, the big cock up came with the driver I went out with to learn the ropes, very friendly guy and we made friends quickly, this particular order was made online but the customer was going to pay us cash on the door step.
I'd finished for the night, when my new friend stops me to tell me that he had to rush back to the first delivery I did with him because he forgot to take the £54 the customer was supposed to pay him...
Technically it's not do with me, every time a driver delivers an order, we have to put into the computer that we are delivering a particular order, (Not only to log on our employee accounts, but for those who order online, the website or app will tell them the pizza is on it's way) because it was under his name, I couldn't have been held responsible technically.
Another problem came up when I incorrectly read a delivery slip, I seen CC on the slip (Which means credit card) and assumed it had been paid for online, CC WEB on the slip means the pizza has already been paid for, but a CC on it's own means the customer will pay by car on the doorstep, well, because I didn't read the slip properly I didn't take the chip and pin machine with me, so when I did deliver, I had to borrow the guys phone to phone the store to do a credit card transaction, took about 10 minutes because I couldn't get through to the store.
In terms of work pattern, I work Tuesday's, Friday's and Saturday's. They will tell me what time to be in and I work till they don't need me, it all depends on how many drivers and there and how busy the orders are.
Whilst there are no orders, I'm expected to do various tasks around the store, I was making pizza boxes for about half hour before going out on deliveries. But if tonight is anything to go by, I won't be doing much in the store, I spent my entire evening on the road, literally I would get back to the store, walk in and right away be out doing another delivery.
So yeah, finally got a job, and it's a job I know i'll enjoy as I love driving
