Fireworks are annoying.

Posted 11-03-2012 at 05:06 PM by DarkHoodness

Gotta love the UK and our traditions. 2-3 evenings of this every damned November.

(It actually doesn't bother me that much - But it does upset the pets, and that's what annoys me.)

I don't really mind them as long as they're at an appropriate time (New Years, Bonfire Night etc.). I reckon they're a waste of money and I usually find them underwhelming nowadays. They're nice to look at when walking at night though.

I own a dog who freaks out when she hears loud noises (she was hiding, I didn't drag her out to film her). Unexpected fireworks are a big nuisance for me. Times like this are still annoying but at least I can prepare for them.

I don't understand why people use crappy garden fireworks and irritate their neighbours if it causes them problems, when public displays are cheaper than buying your own fireworks while being better to look at.

Aren't fireworks illegal to purchase in the UK if you don't have a license? If yes, where do people get them?

You can get them anywhere, even at supermarkets and newsagents.

Well, that's stupid.

I know plenty of people who think it's just as stupid that we banned them.

My dad did lots of stupid stuff with them as a kid. I believe there was an incident with someone's letterbox that ended in him repainting it. He still sees no reason for them to be banned.

I know this is very Nanny-State of me, but those people need to be protected from themselves. And aside from the risk of personal injury, unplanned and unlicensed fireworking is frigging annoying, as DarkHoodness has pointed out.

Putting my eleven year old dog on valium for one weekend every year is really not pleasant.

Fuck fireworks.

Nate's post raises a question. Would the world be a better place if the people stupid enough to blow themselves up with fireworks were blown up with fireworks?

Absolutely. But the world would be a worse place if we didn't do everything we could to stop it happening.

Stupid Polish people blow themselves up with the fireworks and paradoxically it doesn't seem to be any less of them there

Thing is though - Yeah, those stupid people may be better blowing themselves up, just they have a tenancy to hurt other innocent people in the process. Or they end up simply injuring themselves and it costs the NHS a lot of money to patch them up.

Then again that happens anyway.

@WoF - Valium is safe for dogs? Getting a sedative for my one may be a good idea. I'll ask the vet about it.

Hey... Uhhh... this is somewhat coincidental but I've spent this evening scanning, OCRing and fixing the OCR errors in the document that states my brother and myself are now officially Polish citizens.

That is all.

I love fireworks, these few days are the only ones I enjoy in the whole of winter (except for Christmas). I love that we get firework displays from my bedroom window because of all the middle class people who can afford tonnes of fireworks. Also Willow (my cat) doesn't seem to mind very much.

Also, I think I saw Slenderman in your video, be careful, DH!

Fireworks used to be a big deal when I was a kid but now they're more annoying. Don't get me wrong I still like to see fireworks now and again but they aren't as exciting as they were. The only really fun thing about them now is when they go a bit wrong; not like a major disaster when someone gets hurt, but I mean when the odd firework goes in a random direct making everyone panic for instance. It's funny to see.

I still like the Catherine wheels because they are just mad.

No less than an hour ago did my friend set off, and get hit in the face by, a firework that broke his nose. That's pretty much all I need to say.

I think my dad and his friends used to throw fireworks just before they exploded. So did Pippa Middleton apparently...different times I guess.
