Don't you hate it when people post obnoxious text at the top of their blog and you have to scroll past it every time you want to read what they've posted? Man, I really hate that.

New Modem

Suddenly, internet speed!

Yes, after many years of Old Modem, now there's New Modem! Our internet has got increasingly worse for a while now so recently Mum rang up our provider and complained; their response was to inform us that we're due a new modem, which they're required to provide but only if we ask in the right place (the right place was reached through their automated phone service, but suspiciously was not titled 'If you're due the new modem we promised but aren't keen to advertise...'

Either way, now I have a new modem, and difference is easy to see; videos load, things download... I'm off to turn up all my graphics and play MMOs.

On the contrary, the average internet speed in the UK is apparently 7.6 Mbps.

Although it's fast enough to do what I want, mine sucks at just over 4 Mbps. But meh, I get what I pay for I guess. It is one of the cheapest available after all.

EDIT: Also, woe betide you if you have any problems with TalkTalk... Be sure you can understand heavy Indian accents well, and even though the poor buggers on the helpline switchboard will try their best to do their job, sometimes they won't even understand you... :S

Guess I've been lucky over the 6 years I've been with them that I've not had any major, unfixable problems except for them sending me a dodgy router that I keep forgetting to replace.

	Different results depending on time of day, and moment to moment. My first test gave me this. Subsequent tests got download speed in the sixes, but consistently failed to upload at all. That's pretty dire and I don't think it's all that representative. I'll try again at my other place when I get there, if this blog hasn't disappeared by then.

	I just thought I was on Fiber optic, and that's supposed to be damn quick, at least my Ping's much better than Havoc's. Oh, and here's an interesting fact, the font used on that website is the same font Valve uses on Steam and Portal 2, Alte DIN Mittelschrift. It's also the same font used on road signs in Germany. What you do with that information is entirely up to you.
