New Modem


Don't you hate it when people post obnoxious text at the top of their blog and you have to scroll past it every time you want to read what they've posted? Man, I really hate that.

Suddenly, internet speed!

Yes, after many years of Old Modem, now there's New Modem! Our internet has got increasingly worse for a while now so recently Mum rang up our provider and complained; their response was to inform us that we're due a new modem, which they're required to provide but only if we ask in the right place (the right place was reached through their automated phone service, but suspiciously was not titled 'If you're due the new modem we promised but aren't keen to advertise...'

Either way, now I have a new modem, and difference is easy to see; videos load, things download... I'm off to turn up all my graphics and play MMOs.

That is all.

Nope. I was responding to Xav posting his work connection.

But when the NBN is set up, my home download speed will be gigabit speed. One more reason to be glad to be Australian.

My university has 1Gbps internet, I think. Speed tests usually only get 150-500 or thereabouts, but there are tens if not hundreds of people using it constantly.

The stupid thing is that each student has a personal download cap of 2GB/month.

We could get 1 gig over here if we really wanted, but it's just way too expensive for now. I'm not gonna pay 200 bux a month just so I can download a movie in a few seconds every once in a while. For anything else a 100mbit connection really is all you need.
