Direct3D in Oracle Virtual box/VMware

I decided to try VMware player instead of Oracle Virtual Box. I preffer VMware because it has this thing called VMware tools, which are hardware drivers for the guest OS (I think).

That is cool because I can switch the guest OS to full screen and the resolution of the guest OS will be the max resolution of my monitor.

Unfortunately, it doesn't add DirectX/Direct3D support. Fortunately, there are a few solutions to this problem.
  1. Purchase VMware Workstation

    Pros
    • Easy to use

    Cons
    • Costs money.
    • Experimental.
    • May only work on some guest OSes.
  2. Use WineD3D

    Pros
    • Free
    • Can work on other Virtual Machines (like Oracle Virtual Box).

The game I'm trying to play installs fine, but when I execute the game, the OS ignores it. It doesn't show up in the task manager or the processes.
That probably means that it's crashing immediately.

You do know VMWare has a trial version, right? When it expires, you can't make new VMs, but you can use the ones you have.

It would help if you told us what the game was.

Wouldn't it say "(not responding)" in the task manager?

I have VMware player, which is a free version of VMware.

Not always.

Have you tried things like lowering sound acceleration level in dxdiag or sound quality in the control panel - > sound? It increases compatibility a bit.

If it insta-crashes it wouldn't have time to not respond.

That would mean that it was freezing. If it was properly crashing, it would be cleared from the task manager.

I lowered the sound quality in the control panel, but that didn't work. Maybe I need to re-install the game with low sound quality.

I think it wouldn't work if it doesn't now
