So I published this book...

Hello folks,

Before I explain this title, allow me to present a wee back story. As detailed in my previous blog, I completed my AS levels, most notable of my exams was English, in which I achieved a solid A grade with a 96% in my coursework. That's not me trying to blow my own trumpet, it's just a fact that ties into my next point: I love writing. I do it for my job, I do it at sixth form, I do it on the weekends, I do it sitting at the kitchen table, hell sometimes I like to do it in bed.

My principle aspiration and one of the things to do before I die was and is, to get published. I want to be an author when I'm older, I'd like to do a bit of journalism and continue with my freelance writing but my overall goal is to become a famous author. Unlikely? Perhaps. But today I took my first baby step into my 'literary career'.

Over the summer I tasked myself to write a story for a friend. It was originally going to be a crappy little work maybe 5 or 10 pages in length, a quick job spanning a couple of hours. But as I worked though the night the plot developed and I realised I'd thought of something relatively unique, I hadn't taken any vast swathes of storyline from another novel as I have done in the past when I've practised writing. To be blunt I was quite proud of myself. When the book was done and I had everything finished, I gave a draft of it to my mum who's trained in editing and grammar and all that shit (as OANST knows, my grammar is lacking sometimes...commas, for instance). Once that was all done I sent the copy to one or two friends and got a pretty positive response, so I decided to go all the way and self publish the book.

I'm not trying to over play what I've done, anyone with a computer can self-publish. But I really tried to go all out here, I hired an artist for the front cover, wrote up a foreword, dedicated the book to the friend I wrote it for and got copyright stuff (which is part and parcel of writing a book). Any way, it's available on Amazon and Kobo. Unfortunately it's a little bit more expensive than I wanted it to be at £1.53. I was aiming for £1 but some stuff about royalties meant I had to boost it up a bit.

Here's the link any way, if you've got a few dollars lying around, help a guy out and purchase a copy. It's appreciated to no end.

Aww, poor BM.

Heh, well to be honest Oddjob, I didn't want to charge £1.50, I was aiming for £1 but the royalties you get for £1 are negligible. It's £1 on the Kobo though. Yes, my forum skin was a bit of a flop because it was a phase, but I love writing more than anything else. It's something I'll happily do until I die. Many thanks.

You hired an artist for the cover? How much did that cost?

Good going on getting something published.

it was £40. Which I why I need to sell forty units approximately. I'm not that interested in making a profit but I'd like to get the money back for the cover haha.

Very cool. If I had a Kindle I would buy it. And unlike T-Nex, WHO IS AN ABSOLUTE BITCH, I would have read it.
