I met Obama today. Well, some black guy or other, anyway.

I think this is actually a really profound blog. I think he's talking about what he perceives as his failure to attain inner peace - how his abundance of material possessions (perhaps provided by his parents), while the comfort they all provide collectively may mask itself as peace, when they are all actually attained, the realisation of the superficiality of his materialist lifestlye leaves an unfilled void.

Also, Lorne Lanning strikes me as the kind of guy that eschews Starbucks.

I don't think anyone on this forum actually likes or agrees with any of Lorne's philosophies, and I respect him for keeping them relatively restrained in the media he creates.

I feel like for OWI/JAW to be successful in endeavoring to make something new, they may have to scrap/retool the whole "industry versus nature" angle and take on something a little more cerebral. After Avatar, I think the average person is thoroughly sick of that message. Unless you're a hippy like Lorne.

I bet Lorne loved Avatar. I can just see him watching him with while scratching his little beard, legs crossed, munching on vegen dogs, thinking it was the most original movie he'd seen in years.

Seriously though, I do respect the guy for making some of the best games of all time, and telling amazing stories. I just think he's a bit.. out there.

He's probably always been like this, but Facebook is like a soapbox, so you're going to see that more personal side of people when they post there, and that's not always a good thing.

That hippy, new-age shit was popular in the 80's and 90's, so he probably wasn't too out of his element in those days. Now it just seems silly.

I liked Avatar. I know it was unoriginal and there were a lot of things I really disliked about it, but overall I rather enjoyed it.

I'm looking forward to the next two.

Oh well, at least it's easy to shift Oddworld to address commercialisation and consumer culture. That's still relevant, plus it'll get the hipsters on board.

The reasons why people like Lorne stand behind their "hippy bullshit" is 'cause they want to continue to live comfortably in a better world without the risk of it all going to shit, for the sake of our own survival, and aren't happy with the status-quo (complete with inequality, suffering of the underprivileged, resources shortages, environmental damage...). It's a good motive to have.

However, everything's gotta be taken into moderation and be done for practical reasons. I've noticed that many of my peers lose sight of the bigger picture, become hypocritical, end up believing in bullshit, or start making lifestyle choices that end up doing more harm than good through false beliefs. (Even I've done that until I was shown otherwise)

Images in society are an issue too, which is something I resent, but that's how things work, and more of my peers ought to consider how they portray themselves. If you're trying to appeal to those who are ignorant to take you seriously in ways which relates to them, opens their eyes, and shows them other, more sustainable ways of living, then it won't do to be ignorant and narrow minded in your own way of life, or believe in things that are too radical and simply aren't true. Not enough people think about this.

Of course though it doesn't help when other people see the whole hippy image as being uncool and silly, so bundle environmental protection and sustainable living as part of that even though it's an important part of continuing to live comfortably with plentiful resources. There are far too many people who don't make that link. Perhaps the "uncool" hippy image is part of that problem.

It's more than just ultra leftist hippy nonsense though. The guy is also one of those conspiracy theory wackos that thinks 9/11 was planned by the government and that he's been contacted by aliens. He's the type of guy who can quote "Zeitgeist" verbatim and doesn't realize that he's just as much a victim of aggrandizing propaganda as those he derides on a daily basis.

Yeah, I don't like mega liberals, but I can respect a viewpoint - no matter how bullheaded - if it's at least rooted in reality. Many of Lorne's, however, are not.

I'm pretty sure Lorne was at this orgy, but I'm not too sure, as he was wearing a mask.
