Something different

Posted 07-31-2012 at 05:37 PM by MeechMunchie
The original plan for this blog was to have a good vent and express the various confusing and contradictory themes currently squirming their way through my unfinished adolescent psyche like that robot worm thing from the start of The Matrix.

Then it became a blog about why I wouldn't, or perhaps couldn't, do that.

Then it became yet another analysis of my relationship with you, dear forums, as my most regular and widespread influence over my teenage years.

Then it became a mass of all that, and why I couldn't even seem to write a coherent blog any more. But forget that. Draw a line under it; I'm not quite sure why I even left all that in. Look, I'll draw a line now. This bit never existed.
__________________________________________

Preamble aside (dammit) I realised that despite treating you with more trust and respect than my biological family, it wasn't really fair to just dump my thoughts here. Nobody wants to read that, even if you like the person. It's just impersonal garbage. So, I'll try and give you something you do want to know.

Ask me anything.

Seriously, any question, and I'll answer honestly and to the best of my ability, until this blog gets knocked off the front page.

Have fun.

Let's analyze the blog:

1. MM says that he'll answer every question he gets from anybody
2. You abuse that fact writing every single question that came to your mind. Every. Single. It's like a fucking wall of questions. And most of them personal as fuck and therefore aren't easy to answer.

Now let me ask: Didn't you have the single moment while writing those when some part of you said something like "Dude, that's really, really annoying thing to do"? And didn't you have second thoughs while hurrying him up, because you'd sound even more like an asshole? D:

I think the lesson here goes both ways.

Regardless of how well your question blogs are going to go prior, there might just be someone out there who takes your OP seriously and will ask anything and everything that drifts out of his head. And on the other hand, be careful of what you ask, because it might just get answered. And answered. And answered.

Then why?
I don't particularly hate you, and though I find you annoying on a semi-regular basis, I don't think you're beyond repair; We've had good members start out worse than you.

:
Is it because every now and again in a blog comment I mention Ponies?
Yes.

:
Is it because my avatar is Vinyl Scratch and my sigpic is Rainbow Dash?
Yes.

:
Is it because I sit around feeling sorry for myself in my blogs?
Yes.

:
Is it because you think I'm arrogant or selfish?
Yes.

:
Or is it simply because I won't shut the fuck up and fuck the fuck off and my posts are irritating?
Yes.

:
Is it all of these?
Yes. And more~

:
Didn't you have the single moment while writing those when some part of you said something like "Dude, that's really, really annoying thing to do"?
No, not really. I thought I was being helpful.

I know that wasn't directed at me but I was answering questions so

:
Why?
Because.

:
Why what?
Because that.

:
How?
Ambiguously.

:
Why did you make this blog? (No-one actually asked this but you're all thinking it and no-one would ever bother to write it out)
Because I wanted to answer some questions. Seriously. Maybe I just got so sick of being full of confusing questions that I wanted to be able to give some clear answers for once.

Oh, I expected weird questions. In fact, I invited them; I would have been somewhat surprised had there not been any.

I just expected people to ask questions that they actually wanted to know the answer to, rather than a stream of generic queries that sounds like something off a dating website.

Incidentally, the first two questions on this blog are the two questions I was most expecting, from the people I was expecting them from. I also find it curious how, after probing for personal information, people abandon the subjects completely, like the secrecy is the only thing that makes these details interesting.

I can't give all-time answers to all of these. They're too subjective, and entirely dependent on my mood.

:
Favorite game?
Currently, Starcraft II.

:
Favorite platform?
PC, of course.

:
Favorite Franchise?
The Elder Scrolls. They've managed to keep the lore consistent and relevant, which is hard. Dawn of War is second.

:
Favorite company?
Valve, but more for Steam than their games.

:
Favorite character?
Currently, Rin Tezuka.

:
Favorite Enemy?
Zerglings are delightfully smushable.

:
Favorite Boss?
Reflux's 3rd form.

:
Favorite Power-Up?
Heavy Metal Fist (in a Can).

:
Favorite Controller?
Mouse.

:
Sonic or Mario?
THAT BLASTED HEDGEHOG

Hey MeechMunchie! If you were spectating on a grand slam fight to the death of every indie game in existence which would you most want to see tear the throats of every other competitor out and fashion a crown from their spines?

Now there's a f-'ing* question.

Meat Boy's fairly compassionate, so he'd just be standing on a mountain of corpses, slowly regenerating as he throws off oncomers.

The Kid from Bastion's a fighter all right, but I don't think I'd want to see him destroy his youth again.

I know, Darwinians. They descend, a swarming tribe, a sapient locust cloud that embodies the raw carnage of the evolutionary struggle. Lasers erupt from glowing forearms, foes are blasted into polygons like a low-res Necron gauss flayer. An officer stands tall (though his z-axis, his depth, is actually his significant quality), waving his banner of war, as his people, once oppressed, carve a bloody niche for themselves in the hostile environs of the arena.

:
FAVOURITE MOVIE?
V FOR VENDETTA! THE FACT THAT THIS ANNOYS PEOPLE JUST MAKES ME LIKE IT MORE!

HEY WINGS! THE FILM IS BETTER THAN THE BOOK! HAA-HAHAHA!

:
MONEY OR LIFE?!
BOTH! Or life. Especially if that means I can use money to buy more life.

:
Will hard, long work on myself, self-sacrfice and a strong belief grant me reaching my goal?
MAYBE! You might get lucky, but then again, you might not. The world comes down to dicerolls more than people like to think.

Sod off, It's an Anglicised translation. If I'm writing in English I'm not gonna use Japanese grammar.

*Being well-raised, I actually can't swear casually in public. If I need to use an expletive, I actually pronounce it blanked. If you see me swearing properly, it's not casual i.e. deliberate.

It's not grammar, not really. Parents (should) pick baby names based on what makes a nice sound matched with the family name. Te-zu-ka-ri-n rolls off the tongue, whereas Ri-n-te-zu-ka does not.

Putting the names the western way round is a stupid thing to do that basically says to the audience 'You are morons, eat what's easily digestable.' It also makes the names sound stupid.

In England, the formal name comes second. We're in England. If I had a Japanese friend, I'd call them whatever the hell they wanted.

As an amendment to my answer to Manco, seeing the cute ship from Nimbus swooping and skewering combatants on its nosepoint would be pretty hilarious.

Be that as it may, western culture presents the given name first, and the surname after. It's a cultural difference that doesn't change the name in any way, and is a hell of a lot better than having to add a sentence explaining which is the given name every time you use it.

In Japan you wouldn't call yourself Megroff Albert and nobody would expect you to or call you by it. Your argument needs a bit of work.

The Japanese themselves have adopted the habit of writing their given name first when using the Latin alphabet to avoid confusion.

And so it would be up to them what they want to be called, whether it's a number or a nickname or a title or whatever, thus rendering local rules moot.

However, I'm never going to meet a fictional character. I take little issue with localisation as part of translation. Flipping manga is where I draw the line.

Look, man, I'm never going to be as interested in all this Japanophila shindiggery as you.

I will therefore be sticking to my gaijin ways for the forseeable future as a matter of convenience, unless I should ever end up having to go to Japan for some reason.
