The reason I usually disagree with this is because feminists usually agressively push their opinions on males just because the small amount of males in the world are causing the problem.
The rape problem is exactly that.

And, saying 'why should it be my responsibility to not go out alone at night so I don't get raped', that's the most bullshit thing I saw in that. I mean, its my responsibility not to go alone at night in case anything happens to me, and I'm male. I'm not going to go bitch about 'I shouldn't have to worry about my safety' to a person who has done nothing to cause the problem. What do they expect us to do anyway? Magically get rid of every male rapist everywhere? It's not like nothing is being done about rapist already but don't argue it with a person who has no power to do anything about it unless they were an eye-witness and got the rapist proved guilty.

It's all the same thing with those posts girls make on facebook (mostly teens). When they lose their boyfriend or something they usually blame males as a whole. How exactly is it every male person's fault? It isn't, hence why the argument gets disagreed with so much.

In simplest terms; feminists say they want equality, but what they actually want is to be given special treatment.

Firstly, the derision in the above comments just highlights why feminism is still A Thing To Talk About. So great job on that I guess?

How dare a group of people who are discriminated against voice their disgust with the way society views them! Next thing you know black people and gay people will get uppity.

Here’s the problem: when you go out at night, you worry “what if I get mugged? What if I get stabbed?” And that’s rational and yes you absolutely have a responsibility to keep yourself safe from those.

But why should someone have to worry about going out at night simply because of their sex? Anyone can be mugged, but rape is far and away something that affects females more than males. That’s the point the comic strip is trying to make.

:
I'm not going to go bitch about 'I shouldn't have to worry about my safety' to a person who has done nothing to cause the problem.
Okay, so we confine feminists to only talk to convicted rapists. Then what?

But seriously, the whole point of this comic was to criticise the way rape is viewed in society, and your response is “but I didn’t rape anyone, stop talking to me”? What the fuck?

:
What do they expect us to do anyway? Magically get rid of every male rapist everywhere?
How about changing the disgusting perception of rape and rape victims in today’s society? How about improving the amount of criminal trials and convictions of rapists? How about taking measures to prevent people from becoming rapists because they think it’s an okay thing to do?

:

Cases of rape are under-reported, mainly because the people involved don’t have the fortitude to stand up and talk about what happened to them. Because of how society harangues them – “she probably deserved it“, “she was dressed like a whore anyway”, “I bet she’s lying”.

Here's the thing. If this person wanted to make a fair assessment of the problems that feminism faces then that would be great. This isn't it.

The first panel is a bunch of bullshit. Why the fuck is this person just out of nowhere saying that she doesn't like it when men treat women like objects? Really? You don't like that? Who the fuck would have guessed? You know what I don't like? I don't like when women use men for reasons of monetary security without actually giving a shit about them. But I'm not just going to blurt that out because a statement like that completely ignores individuality, and puts the person of the gender you're talking about on the defensive. You get exactly the response you are expecting from that, no matter how the artist may have drawn her sincere little eyes. It's an attack on a gender, and it's stupid.

Also, where the fuck does she live that she can't go out of the house without fear of being raped? Because if the crime in her neighborhood is that bad then I guarantee you that no one could leave the house without fearing being shot, or robbed as well. Don't couch this as if rape stands by itself apart from all other violent crimes. As if perfectly peaceful neighborhood's with low crime rates have high rape rates.

I'm all for women's rights. I'm fine with feminism. This is just a stupid comic that gets it wrong.

Okaaaaay. Here's the real number. One in four COLLEGE women have either been raped, or had a rape attempt, and that includes a great deal of instances of unwanted groping at parties while drinking. So the real number is more like one in eight COLLEGE women have been raped. Not quite the same thing. Still very bad, but yeah. The comic is a dishonest, or misinformed piece of shit.

You forget paedophiles in that. They obviously target younger people so I also have to take responsibility in avoiding them at night as well don't I? I have to worry about going out at night simply because of my age? Both gender and age cannot be helped, so there's no difference here. I have the same problem, but you don't see me making a deal about 'I shouldn't have to worry about paedophiles at night!'

I admit, I worded that pretty badly. I meant they shouldn't express their opinions on people who know rape is a bad thing and don't disagree with their points. If they're not the problem in society who don't care and think rape is bad, don't talk to them about it. Talk to the people in society who don't care, the people who think it's right, and people with an actual possibility of doing something to help stop it.

:
How about changing the disgusting perception of rape and rape victims in today’s society? How about improving the amount of criminal trials and convictions of rapists? How about taking measures to prevent people from becoming rapists because they think it’s an okay thing to do?
I don't disagree with this in the case of my original post. Like I said above, talking about it to people who already know it's wrong won't do anything, talking to the people in society who don't care or don't see the problem, or somebody able to help put a stop to it.

:
Cases of rape are under-reported, mainly because the people involved don’t have the fortitude to stand up and talk about what happened to them. Because of how society harangues them – “she probably deserved it“, “she was dressed like a whore anyway”, “I bet she’s lying”.

I think that the person who made that comic is someone I knew closely once... I compared artwork she did for me. Both the font and art style is exactly the same, and so is the argument she presented to me once. We fell out 'cause of this...

The following three paragraphs should say a lot about the status quo of society, really.

I don't discriminate based on gender and was born male, so I've never had to deal with the problems she suddenly found herself getting so incredibly angry and aggressive about.

While I've always had a general awareness of human rights, I didn't really know a lot about gender discrimination, so didn't know how to react to her.

She didn't tell me everything either or explain very much, so I was dismissive since she argued so aggressively, and then *I* was branded as being a bully because she irrationally expected an ignorant and stupid moron like me to know about what she was upset about. She envied me. It's something I never wanted to happen and wish I was a bit more knowledgeable so I could have avoided falling out with her...

I digress. I'm still upset about this.

Anyway, feminism has a lot of valid points, but what the feminists need to remember is that many of the things that offend them are deep-seated within the foundations of society. Many of them are widely accepted wrongs, and there isn't much awareness of them, especially from those, like I once was, who are lucky enough to not be affected by them.

To most ignorant wankers like me, most feminist issues are invisible. We grew up with them, so see them as being the norm without even realising that they're wrong!

However, they can yell and scream as much as they want - Getting aggressive like my friend did with me won't generate a positive reaction. They need to look back at history and find out just WHY these things are so deep seated so that they can look at how to tackle them rationally and effectively, using methods which means people will listen to them.

The above comic is not a good way of portraying ones point. Look at the reactions from those of us here who disagreed with what the comic was saying (EDIT: not meaning to label you guys as "ignorant" incorrectly, sorry.). You need to talk on the same level as people and educate them - Not brand them all as being bullies because of their ignorance.

To tell you the truth, my personal experiences with my friend turned me against the opinions of this comic, until I sat down and thought long and hard about them.

Okay so you want to present an argument to someone who is against you and you yell your argument at them aggressively. Do you really think they'll listen to what you have to say?

It's not even people who are ignorant of the issues. No one likes being yelled at for something they didn't do, and then being lied to about statistics. Yes, the problems are real. Yes, this person is a lying asshole who's skewing of the facts illegitimizes a legitimate issue.

Uh... I screwed up a bit. This is why I normally stay away from debates (though this one involves me on a personal level and I've been a "victim" of this, so... Yeah)

By those of us here who are "ignorant" - I should have said "those of us here who are against what the comic is saying". Which is totally different, really.

Sorry 'bout that. I meant no offence.

EDIT: In fact it's this behaviour that got me into deep trouble with (I assume, I could be wrong) the very person who made this comic.

I really feel like you’re missing the point here. Hey, it’s a comic where the writer is expressing their opinion on a feminist issue and their frustration about the matter, it’s going to generalize and come off as standoffish.

:
Don't couch this as if rape stands by itself apart from all other violent crimes. As if perfectly peaceful neighborhood's with low crime rates have high rape rates.
Except rape isn’t just a crime that happens on the streets? Non-consensual sex isn’t confined to back alleys and shit – getting the victim drunk at a bar, drugging the victim, cornering them in their own home. Statistics like this exist for a reason.

:
I admit, I worded that pretty badly. I meant they shouldn't express their opinions on people who know rape is a bad thing and don't disagree with their points. If they're not the problem in society who don't care and think rape is bad, don't talk to them about it. Talk to the people in society who don't care, the people who think it's right, and people with an actual possibility of doing something to help stop it.
And that’s often what they do, but at the same time messages posted on the internet—such as this comic—have a broader audience and have a greater chance at reaching a large number of people than writing letters to people in government or whatever. And those people aren’t likely to do jack shit unless they get approached by a shit-ton of like-minded people, either. Better to put out messages like this which get shared around by like-minded people.

:
That wasn't the point. The point was because in both situations they were blaming every male person by saying 'men', that includes people who might possibly be trying to help them or have the same views but are male. If they were more specific and didn't just say 'men', I wouldn't have a problem.
Again, the people who post those kind of Facebook messages are usually feeling emotional and probably aren’t thinking totally rationally.
