Until two years ago, feminists at my university's society wouldn't allow male members and jeered out any transgender/transsexual members. They were forced to change policy by the university in order to reflect equality.
Reminds me of a joke.

"Sir, I'd like you to set up a feminists' group at this school."
"Certainly, we can arrange that. Of course, in the interests of gender equality we'll have to set up a male chauvinists' club too."

Fun fact: I used to think 'chav' was an abbreviation for 'chauvinist'.

I feel like others have made the points I would have, so I'm not going to contribute any major points. I'll just respond to one sentence of BM's:

:
An important point is that the caricature of feminism is not feminism.
Yes, but the point that several people in these comments have been trying to make is that the comic you posted is a caricature of feminism. No-one has seriously suggested that rape or any of the other topics raised in it aren't legitimate issues that need to be fixed. They've simply said that the way in which she has discussed them is self-defeating.

I barely post here but I came across this and felt like saying something.

OANST: I didn't read it as her saying she is hot, I read it as someone else fighting for women's rights and her thinking that's hot.

Actually, I won't talk about this any more than that because I don't really feel like I could contribute much more either. I think there are some good points in this comic but they get lost because of stupid shit like that whole 1 in 4 women thing.

That is all

I've never met an attractive male advocate for women's rights.

Just putting that out there.

I'll +1 that, but any resultant negative comments about my physical appearance would reduce me to a state of tears.

EDIT: Removed - I'm probably mistaken anyway and what I said here wasn't that important. Also I get the feeling it'll be dug up someday, used against me, and get me into yet more trouble.

Thought: Maybe men tell women to be careful at night just because it's easier than hunting down and imprisoning every potential sex offender?

Are you saying that is a bad thing, or a realist worldview?

Also... this:

We've had the door conversation before. I do it for everybody too.

@Nate, a mixture of realism and laziness. I don't think men feel any sense of solidarity with sex offenders, or a desire to keep women scared. I just think they've accepted that there are some horrible people out there and try to avoid them.

I sometimes hold the door for people. other times I butt in and enter without regard to anyone.. Not on purpose though. I try to work on it.

I think MM's point of view is very realistic... It would be perfect and nice without rapists around... But we just wont ever get rid of them completely... And I'm not sure it has anything to do with rape culture. Bad people just exist in this world, and will continue to do bad things regardless of how the victim is treated or looked upon.

So I don't get why its a problem to tell people to be careful. Guys are at risk as well x_x

Oh This friday I walked around in the city, in the dark, getting lost at 4 am because i got in a fight with my sister. Nothing happened again. I did play a dice game with two guys and won though. But they conveniently 'forgot' to buy the round of drinks that the loser has to do.

Hey, everyone!

Did you know that whether you open the door for people or not is completely irrelevant to a discussion on feminism? No? Well, now you do!

I think if a man holds a door open for a woman that's a feminist, she'll say something like "I'm capable of opening the door my self".

I think this is because some time ago (and maybe today), certain men would have their girl friend enter a building first to make sure there's no one in there with a gun waiting for them.
