That dubble-post spelling was intentional, I thought it was a common way to say it here.

I totally agree with you on the keys, I miss the big clunky keys.

Fucking hell, that start up noise, reminds me of my old ICT lessons back when I was about six. We were still using Windows 95 until 2002 if I remember correctly. Well done for fixing all that up, mate, pretty amazing job. You should run a tech fixing joint out of the back of your bedroom, make a bit of cash.

Your voice is calming.

I might be able to help you with your CD drive issue. Windows 95 still uses an MS-DOS subsystem like earlier versions of windows and isn't really a true 32 bit operating system. Many times I had to load a 16 bit ATAPI device driver in the config.sys, and the CD extensions mscdex.exe in the autoexec.bat in order to get a CD drive to work in 95.

If you have a boot floppy handy that provides CD support I can help you set up the files.

The 'whatever the hell this thing is' is a port for a dock, or port replicator. Laptops used to have special docks so that you could slide the closed unit in while at a fixed workstation, and use a full size external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Basically, it would be a full desktop system until you undocked it and ran mobile.

The extra power button puts the system to sleep, providing the correct drivers are installed.

The portable installation is the reason why you don't have all of the regular system sounds.

Thought it may have been a dock connector, there's a simular port on my Libretto and my friend's Palmax (I still want one of these). I think the portable installation was a good idea anyway being it was a tiny 86MB.

Also, about the CD, I'm sure you're right about it because when I downloaded the driver for it, it was 1 file and it was something with atapi in the name. The laptop itself is unable to boot from anything other than the HDD unfortunately, it has settings for the floppy, but it is a specific connector that I don't have any floppy drives for.

I can take out the HDD and put it in another laptop to start a cd/floppy boot if that's possible to sort out the CD drive. Any help would be appreciated because I never used Windows 95 really, I only had 98, so I'm a bit unsure what to do because there's so much missing from 95 that is in 98. The fact it's missing a wallpaper strech was a surprise.
