There's a privately owned facility about 6 (or perhaps 10?) miles away from here which does weapons tests on behalf of the military - It's been active for as long as I've been alive and living here.
I dunno what kind of weaponry they test but the explosions are felt through the ground, are sometimes loud depending on the wind direction, and shake my house even though I live so far away - Just the other day the house shook so much that stuff fell off a shelf and dust came down from the ceiling.
The company has apparently been more active over the past 2 days than they normally are. Yesterday they started testing at 8:30am. Today there's been at least 15 loud explosions - Some of which were picked up by my microphone when I was finishing off the AO Let's Play this afternoon, and can heard clearly over both my voice and the game sound - Especially if you have a bass speaker hooked up to your PC.

What I don't understand is why they think it's a good idea to continue testing this stuff here in south Essex considering this place is quite heavily populated - There's several towns closer to the testing area than where I live.
Apparently people across the estuary, where there's nothing but water and empty space to block the shockwaves, had cracks appear in their buildings and windows smashed, although that was some time ago. But I wonder why more people don't complain about it.

Yeah I had something similar,when they were building a sports center they hit some hard rock,then they would put a s*it load of explosives and detonate,my skyscraper was 300 meters away and the whole apartment shook :O
They were detonating it for a month :X
Mhmm, that's crazy, I couldn't hear any in that vid, so perhaps I'm not paying enough attention. I bet it gets pretty annoying though, I get pissed off just from the noise of the motorway bridge that's about 1/4 mile away from me. Oh and there's this bird with a really loud noise outside my window whose been making the same bird call every five seconds since 4.30 this morning. Holy hell I'm not sleeping very well if that woke me up though. ¬_¬
Yeah it is spelled "exoddus" which is why I say it how I say it. :P When saying "exodus" as a word I don't put as much emphasis on "odd".
Anyway, about the explosions, I threw this 5 sec vid together quick to emphasise what I mean, I think you need a bass speaker to hear it.
Actually the sound isn't annoying at all, it's more of a dull thump - But it's the vibrations and shock waves through the ground which make the birds go silent and buildings shake that are irritating. I find it odd that my mic picked that up considering I'm in a house, wearing it (so no direct contact with the ground), and it's from so far away.
@ Scraby - How did they get away with using explosives for a month that close to a built-up area? Also a month to get rid of rocks? That must've been some tough rock...
EDIT: Also about 5 minutes after posting this post they just set off a series of 5 or 6 explosions in a row. Grr.
Go grab some ammo while they arent looking,or ask them nicely to give you a rocket launcher,then fry their facility while chanting:THIS WEAPON WILL NOT PASS.
