Tink's Quest

This is a game my friend made based off of my character in Berathen Star.

I made the dialogue box in this game. Unfortunately he still has the older version. The current version has scrolling text, but he couldn't be bothered to let me implement it.

None the less I hope you guys get some enjoyment out of the game. Let me know what you think, what you'd like to see improved, and what you don't like.

The double-jump was a bit troublesome at times. I didn't finish it, but what I played was good.

I'm glad you guys played my game! I totally put music in the game as well, but my partner's speakers don't work so he took it out without noticing.
If the graphics were upped, music was added, and the gameplay was smoothed out a bit more would ya'll be interested in a sequel? I'm much better at programming now then I was when I first implemented this.

I feel like the biggest jerk on the block when I say this, but I didn't really like it. Maybe it's just that I almost invariably do not like platform games (Oddworld being an exception) , but I thought the controls were awkward, and at times flat out didn't work. I got Tink stuck in the air trying to double jump, multiple times. The way you die with no animation, but still have a delay becomes a little frustrating after a while, and since I am absolutely terrible with platformers, I couldn't pass the second screen. I agree with the music notion as well.

I can totally see the basic idea becoming pretty good, but it's going to take a lot of work. Between ironing out the difficulty, touching up the graphics, smoothening the gameplay, and getting the controls to function better (not having a seperate key for a double jump), then I think I would like the game a lot more.

That said, considering the team size (2 I assume) and the amount of free time I assume you have, it's certainly well done. I didn't enjoy it very much, but I'm not the most skilled gamer around, nor do I much enjoy platformers, so my opinion isn't the one that carries the most weight.

Thank you for your honesty Oddey. Posts like yours are ones I can really learn from. Don't feel bad. I was never a fan of the 'wind jump' as my partner calls it which uses the space bar to give Tink another jump. I always felt it slowed things down while also not being that fluid. Not to mention designing levels around that jump is just a pain.

I promise that my next game will be far more ironed out, have music, have better graphics, and be far less frustrating. I really hope you'll be willing to give it a try.

Oh, the other thing that bothered me was jumping into the sides of spikes and dieing. Because of how the initial jump accelerates I found myself doing that frequently on the second screen. I don't know how it could be fixed, but it just felt wrong. Simply clearing the spikes shouldn't be the challenge.
