Republicans are unable to detect irony

In order to get around region blocking, I'm going to post the video twice. You might be able to view one or the other. Or possibly neither, which would be a shame.

Neither. Can you summarise what they were about?

A law was passed in Oklahoma defining life as beginning at conception, so a female Democractic state senator proposed an amendment outlawing the depositing of sperm anywhere but in a woman's vagina. The republicans have a problem with that

This is the highlight of the story:

Male Republican State Senator:
"I think the amendment is an egregious attack on personal liberties from the government."
"It would be a huge free choice issue. Basically, the government is telling a man what he can and can't do with his body"
"There's not another individual that knows what's best for you than you"

Reporter:
"And who are women to tell men what to do with their bodies?"

Republican Senator:
"Right, just like who is a man to think they can control a woman's body?"

Reporter
"Uhhh... You?"

Republican:
"Ummm... errr..."
*stutters for a few more seconds*
"Well, it's not about the government trying to control a woman's body. It's about protecting a life"
"When you have life inside your body, it should be the government's place to protect that life. Even if it does infringe on your liberties"

Sounds like he made a fool of himself - It's a shame it's rarely picked up on and highlighted when politicians do stuff like this.

Kudos to the democratic senator who proposed the sperm deposit amendment, that's an ingenious way of getting people to think, while countering anti-abortion bullshit.

My god, that's almost too sad to watch.

In similar news, there have also been a few female Democrats proposing bills stating that Viagra should only be prescribed when there is a clear medical benefit from using it. This was in response to Republicans' plans to limit access to birth control.

I like how the Democrats are fighting their plans with equaly retarded shit and calling them out as soon as they comment on it.

I haven't liked my country's government ever since I first became old enough to grasp the concept of government. I'm not even 25 and I've thrown up my hands. Watching this shit now is akin to getting a sneak peek of the drama we can expect in next week's episode of America's favorite soap opera/comedy series; Politics!

I think I'll be voting for Obama this year (if I vote). I don't really care about the criticism he's taken. I'd rather vote for some centrist pussy who keeps things the same than for some psychotic old white dude who makes them worse.

It's funny you're berating them for that, because you suggested the exact same thing non-sarcastically in DarkHoodness's blog. If you're doing that on purpose, then I guess you'd be making fun of yourself, which is good, because then I won't have to do it anymore.

But I will anyway, for old time's sake;

This blog should be changed to "havoc is unable to detect irony". Ba-zow!

There have been actual studies done that say exactly what your blog title does. Right wing people genuinely have a difficult time understanding satire.

That's totally not the impression I got from Havoc's comment.

Yeah, I think it's more likely that Havoc is just incapable of sarcasm.

I understand that the Colbert Report has a contingent of republican viewers for this same reason.

Well, berating in the sense that he finds their shenanigans entertaining and then likens it to "fighting fire with fire", stupidity versus stupidity. I don't think I missed his point, and I even agree. I was just pointing out that he was willfully recommending this exact "stupidity versus stupidity" plan of attack in another blog. He later said he was doing it for the lulz, which makes him less of a poor adviser and more of a dick.

...

What was this blog about again?

What I mean is I think Havoc thinks fighting fire with fire in this (and possibly any) case is a great idea and is all for it.

There's got to be one or two sane Republican politicians who spend every congress or senate with their face in their hands.

Exactly. Well not in any case, but in this case it certainly gets the point across. If not to the republicans themselves, then at least to the people voting for them. I hope.
