I'm posting this from my new computer, which arrived today as my late christmas present. It was worth the wait.

Given my old compute was a 13 year-old hunk of junk this is a definate step up.

It's a really nice, new computer. It has a Gigabyte motherboard with USB 3 ports. There's no graphics card as of yet, but I'm planning on getting one soon. It has an Intel i7 quad-core processor which I'm looking forward to utilising. I've also upgraded from Windows XP to 64bit windows Home Premium. We were originally looking at Ultimate, but we were talked down because I'm never going to use the additional functionality.

The icing on the cake is the OCZ Revodrive PCI-E Hybrid 1TB SSD. Supposedly once it caches my programs it will make everything super-fast. The guy that made the machine for me expects a hefty report on its functionality.

I'm in love with this computer. Things open when I click on them, rather than several minutes after.

You should've gone for Windows 7 professional - It has backwards compatibility with old programs, unlike Home, which does not.

Of course there are ways around that if you run XP with a virtual machine or some such but it's a little complicated.

EDIT: Oh, it's a hybrid drive. That makes more sense.

We were considering a slightly smaller SSD, but we decided the speed drop was easily worth the money we saved.

You should have gone for a real SSD that's a bit smaller instead of a hybrid. I've got an SSD as my main Windows drive and damn that bitch is fast.

When I get around to buying my next computer (I've only been talking about it for a year and a half, after all), I'm going to get a 200-300GB SSD for my multiple operating systems and a 1-2 Terabyte HD for data storage. That's pretty much the structure that I have now, though only on standard hard drives. That way, OS and programs load fast, but I've got plenty of cheap space for storage.

My Hybrid SSD still reads at 910mb/s and writes at ~800. It's more than enough.
