Unless your first backup doesn't contain the only copy of any files or settings you want to keep, why would it matter? Surely your latest backup is the only one you need.

I assume you mean you are running out of hard drive space. I first thought you meant would deleting that use up all your ram.

Except if all the other backups are so much smaller, it implies that they're only progressive backups. That would imply that you need the oldest backup in order to do any restore. So don't delete it.

The other option is to delete all backups and do a fresh one from scratch. You'll end up with one large backup again, but it will only have the files you currently need and none that you might want deleted.

Have you tried to restore it yet? I never said that deleting the first backup would cause an error for further backups, just that you'll be screwed if your file system dies and you want to access your backup.

I have more recent backups, most of the stuff from last year I don't need so it had to be DESTROYED.

But are they full backups or incremental backups? If they're 20GB whilst the original was 500, then it sounds like they're only incremental. In which case, as I've said several times already, you won't be able to restore anything.

The point still holds. If all you have are the smaller backups, then you will not be able to restore. Full stop. Impossible.

Read my lips: If you want a valid backup to be stored, you need to delete everything, reset the program and backup from scratch.
