GCSE results!

Posted 08-25-2011 at 02:13 AM by STM
Welp, I got them today and I did better than I anticipated.

History: B
Spanish: D
English Language: A (coursework A)
English Literature: C (coursework B)
Mathematics: B
Biology: C
Chemistry: C
Physics: C
Business Studies: C

So the only subject I failed is spanish and who gives a flying fuck, to be honest there's something up with the teaching when there's about a 50% fail rate with languages in our school. Also I'm a little miffed at Biology...but on the other hand I am unbelievably amazed at how I did in maths I mean...I'm thick!

Well yeh that's about it really. Happy STM is happy!

Nice one! Didn't beat me but still very, very good results! What are you hoping to do afterwards?

Smart arse

Well if things go according to plan I'll do English and History for A level then study to be a barrister through Uni and the Bar exam.

Where you are do they divide the math up into different types of maths? Alternatively what was your math curriculum composed of?

Maths without calculator and Maths with calculator

And maybe they still do that mental arithmetic shit, I was always good at that.

iirc maths at GCSE was a bit of a hodgepodge of different elements. There was at least a statistics bit for us, but outside of that I can't remember it being particularly focused.

A level maths is significantly more structured.

Wil's Avatar
What jumper said. Presumably the specification is itself structured, but that's not the priority at GCSE. Once a student decides to take maths at A Level, it's sensible to consider they have more of an interest in either the academic discipline or the practical subfields.

^ this, GCSE was a bull shit.

And Jenny I'm really not that good at maths I just revised a lot for the days before until it stuck into my head like super glue.

I got an A in the Maths Without Calculator paper and a D in the Calculator paper.

I hate maths you can't work out by pencil and paper.

Calaculator paper is always harder, they expect you to do better becoz de kids get dem teknology fings dat make it well eesy!

As one of your science teachers, I am also disappointed.

Good job on English lang.

Wait, did you get out of RE? I spent perfectly good Leave revising for that.

GCSE RS wasn't compulsory at my school.

Nor mine, in fact we ditched it for personal studies and ethics which was a made up thing by the school that didn't count towards GCSE's, shame though, I got three A* in the practice exams.

And BM, in all honesty I'd rather have had you as a science teacher! My teachers explained shit all to me and it was only when my Chemistry teacher realised I might actually fail that he took me aside and properly explained moles, advanced elementary entities and titration, thing is I kept asking to explain that to me for months before the exam and he ignored me until the last six weeks. =/

Thankfully when it gets down to it all I'm all right, I mean I got an A* in every mock I took for C3...sigh.

A-level science is when it starts to go downhill. My Chemistry teacher explained at the beginning how everything we'd been taught so far was wrong, and everything we were about to be taught was also wrong.

You have to learn each level of complexity in turn before you're ready for the real stuff, sometime after earning your PhD. Same with physics. At least in biology all they do is increase the resolution. Example: you learn what happens between C6H12O6 + 6O2 and 6CO2 + 6H2O. Or was that GCSE? I don't remember. I also don't remember the Calvin cycle, and hey, it came up at Uni. Hooray!

That, as in the equation for photosynthesis? No that's pre GCSE as in 12 year old stuff. I wish I could do Chemistry or Biology for A level but alas it's not my forte.

This was explained to us at the start of GCSE. We were told that we would be taught to a level more advanced than the spec, but when it came to the exams we'd have to dumb down our answers so the examiners would see them as correct.

:
Example: you learn what happens between C6H12O6 + 6O2 and 6CO2 + 6H2O. Or was that GCSE?
I think I was taught that in Year 8, but then we didn't follow any standardized syllabi in Year 8. It stuck through GCSE and then we got the more detailed model in A Levels.

Then I completely forgot it in uni and struggled to learn what the difference between C3, C4 and CAM was. Probably not because it was hard but because I'd stopped giving a fuck about formal education.

O_O Oh fucking shit! : Change of subject here but it''s pretty important.

My boss phoned my Dad up today and explained to him that he was thrown off site the other day because supposedly he had pictures of me asleep on the job and that's why the job was falling behind, first off I never slept a wink on the job while I was working for obvious reasons and secondly the same guy pointed out he had seen the person I was working with sleeping as well, the only actual painter in the whole fucking building who was painting about five or six windows a day, working longer hours without pay and working weekends as well. What the actual fuck. I obviously explained this to my Dad but it brings up a possibility I won't be paid at all for four weeks of work and that my boss will get fined. All because some busy janitor with a chicken shit outlook on life is trying to get me in trouble because maybe he doesn't like me or something.

I'd love to see these 'pictures' and hell when it comes out that he's talking shit is it possible I could take him to court for slander?
Posted 08-26-2011 at 05:44 AM by STM

Wil's Avatar
I'm confused. Who out of your boss and your dad was thrown off the site, and who did the throwing out?

Between you, you should let the janitor know that you demand copies of the pictures before any action is taken (obviously a bit late if kicking has already happened). It's not right that you should be punished based on no evidence that you've seen.

STM, I took environmental science at uni. Hell, I'm still taking it.
Posted 08-26-2011 at 07:03 AM by Wil

STM's Avatar
Oh yes environmental science, I remember you saying that.

And it was my boss, the one who kindly took me on who got thrown off site, by whom I'm not too sure but all I got from my Dad who phoned me today (more relaxed than I am as this thing stirs through my mind) said that a janitor or cleaner or something had photo evidence of me 'asleep', now maybe I had my head down but that was either when I was on break or when there was no work for me to do and I was sitting talking to the painter I was working with, at no point was I sleeping as I'm sure the painter I was working with will testify.

I am looking into slander to see if it is possible to go through with this as I feel it slashes my honour in half and might have repercussions between my Dad and his friend (my boss) if for whatever reason these 'photos' do seem to convey that I was sleeping.

EDIT: It seems that if I can prove that those pictures are false I could get libel. And I'm so serious as well. I don't believe this is happening, I just hope that turning this over in my mind repeatedly is making this sound worse to me than it is.

When asking a question about court, the real question is 'Can I afford it?'

Probably not really, and nothing more has come up about this since he called me out the day before today, I think he was just being nosey when I was having my lunch break or something fucking scumbag that he is.
