Over the last 4 days I've had a reasonably bad headcold. I have produced enough mucus for a large family and have had the generally shit feeling that comes with colds like this.

My ears became very blocked on the plane trip back from England and have never quite returned to normal. This, in conjunction with a head cold, has caused my ears to become horribly pressurised with inner-ear fluid.

At the moment, it's 2:39 in the fucking morning and I can't sleep because of a sharp stabbing pain in my ear. I'm sitting bolt upright because any other position seems to hurt it more. I'm worried that my eardrum is going to perforate if this doesn't go away soon. I have lots of reasonably impotrant flute performances coming up, so that would be really inconvenient.

So, any of you know how to relieve an earache caused by a cold?

You can put warm olive oil in your ears with a pipette to unblock them, also my Doctor said holding your nose so both nostrils are covered and blowing gently every ten minutes can help relieve wax build up.

It's not wax. It's fluid inside the eardrum.

I've been awake for over 2 hours now. Fuck.

Take cold & flu medication. It should unclog all the tubes in your head and let the fluid drain out.

I went to the doctor. I have a raging middle ear infection. I have some meds and some ear drops. I've also taken some pain-relieving coadine tablets. They haven't actually relieved the pain, but I don't seem to be bothered by it anymore
