Pointless raging

Posted 06-09-2011 at 02:20 AM by Dixanadu
So yeah, once a month I like to regularly delete people from my Facebook friends list, mostly people I don't talk to much anymore.

Yesterday, I deleted this girl, who's more of a mutual friend than anything. When I came on today, got a notification that she sent me a request. I accepted anyway, probably she wanted to talk again.

I leave the room to raid the cupboards for foodstuffs, come back, and I have three private messages. All of them pretty much rage about "WHY YOU DELETE ME FOR UR A DICK!" and giant blocks of broken text about why she no longer likes me.

I had to delete her again, and then decline ANOTHER request she sent to be friends.

This is evident of the dangers of being introduced to someone by a friend. Especially if they're female.

That is all.

If I were you I would have accepted the friend request, then deleted her again and seen how long she'd have kept sending you requests for.

Don't delete people! Don't you know the aim of fb is to get as many 'friends' as possible, if you don't have 800+ you're not cool enough!

If I never deleted anyone, I'd probably have more than that.

I also have around twenty people in the 'pending' section of people who are trying to add me.

I only accept people I know, just like Facebook told me!

I trimmed my friends list one time, excising roughly half of my High-School peers. Worth it as fuck.

In the 2 weeks I was on Bebo I recieved a friend request from this guy I really hated. As an inherently nice person I accepted it in good faith thinking he might just want to clear the air.

The next day I've got I've got two messages from him calling me a knobhead for adding him.

And that's why I don't like people.

I usually don't accept friend requests from people I hate, or people I don't know. I don't mind acquaintances adding me, as sometimes their statuses or drama can be entertaining. I don't think I've ever had to delete someone, I have been deleted before, most of the time I only notice because chat displays a lower number than I remember. Sometimes people add me back without me asking them too, it always come with an awkward apology.

Though my latest request I got was someone I recognize from 4chan, I have not accepted, and have no idea how they managed to get my Facebook.

My latest request was from my friend's (very recent) ex-girlfriend and I added her until he sent me a bawlly message telling her that after three weeks she broke his heart. So like a good friend, I deleted her. Mere days later she sent another friend request and a PM asking why I deleted her.

:
:S um u we're on my friend list , did u delete me cusa *removed*? Cus tbf he's the one doin all the wrong lol
:
*Removed* asked me to delete you and I honestly couldn't give a flying rats arse what went on. I'll add you again and tell *removed* that it ain't my problem.
:
Don't bother, he's bein pathetic gettin his friends to delete me like. Fs sure he's goin steady agen. Nah just don't add me cus it'll fuck him off and he'll start on u like .
So I re-added her.

Everybody knows Facebook sucks anyway. Sure I have one and it's useful for keeping in contact with people you actually know if they live far away from you, but it's not like anyone ever posts anything interesting. Hell, most posts are from those shitty mini-games like Farmville.

People have ceased sending me FarmVille and other related requests on Facebook after a warning I put up I would delete anyone who did so.

Dix: You do know that you can just block specific apps, don't you? A while back I actually asked someone "Oh, is Farmville still happening?"; it had been that long since I'd seen it mentioned on Facebook that I thought it had died out.

If you could maintain active and engaged relationships with all those people, that would put you squarely in the realm of the metahuman, and you would be required to register your identity and boring superpowers with the authorities.

Or go rogue, whatever.

What BM is trying to say is there's a soft cognitive limit of 200 people the human brain is capable of maintaining empathic relationships with.

I suspect that number is quite a bit smaller for me. But there are a fair few people who I don't especially care about, but who amuse me.
