Dump dump DUMPIN'

[The included pictures were taken today, not last night]

So what's neat about our town is that older neighborhoods are not cleared/demolished to make way for tract housing and subdivisions. We happen to rent a cottage in one of the oldest neighborhoods in town, and we love it.

Our street/neighborhood is quiet, crime free, friendly and clean. Or used to be. Last night I stepped out onto our back deck to grab a smoke and mess around with our new phone. It was about 8:45 PM, so it wasn't quite dark yet. Our house is situated on a rather steep hill, so you can see over the top of our back yard fence from the deck.

When I looked over the fence, I noticed a car was sitting across the street in front of a recently vacant house [this house is also directly across from another vacant house which is directly behind us]. I figured that they were having car trouble, or lost, which isn't unusual in our neck of the woods, so I lit up my smoke and went back to the phone.

Well, I heard the car pull away, and when I looked back up, there was a shit ton of trash in its place:

As well as across the street from that corner along the side of the empty house behind our own:

I don’t know if this happens in your neck of the woods, but people dump like crazy up here. I can’t get used to it because it sure as fuck didn’t happen back in California where I grew up and the Pacific Northwest is god damned gorgeous, so I can’t wrap my head around why these fucking inbred yokels feel the need to dump their shit all over the place [seriously, my mom lives out in the woods and people are perpetually dumping fridges and washers by her house].

Anyway, I was/am fucking pissed, so I wrote a note and nailed it to one of the three tires they left on the side of the road:

Why? Because they left their shit on a corner that’s in between two vacant houses, so they’re obviously from the neighborhood. They knew nobody was going to have a direct line of sight on them. And more importantly, I pay money to live in this neighborhood, and even though it’s one of the oldest left in town, it’s nice, quiet, and crime free. And it’s usually nice to look at. Now my view from my back porch and kitchen window is full of garbage. Fuck that.

Also, when I thought back on the car, it looked familiar. Of course my line about seeing their faces and getting their plates is absolute bullshit, but I can definitely remember what kind of car it was down to the most mundane detail, and if I do see their car again, I will be making good on that promise.

This shit just irks me. I mean what the fuck? You have all this shit laying around your house/property, and instead of calling the refuse disposal guys, who will pick it up for next to nothing if not nothing, you formulate a plan, take the time to load it into your shit box, and then dump it in my fucking neighborhood? Come on.

So does crap like this go on for you guys? Like I said, I've never seen dumping like this in the multiple parts of California I've lived in, but it's a serious problem up here. Which, again, considering the scenery, is mind boggling.

EDIT: And before any of you clever little sillies point it out, I am aware of the irony of posting a cunty note about dumping/littering...With what is essentially more litter.

People dump stuff a lot around the place my Dad lives. There is a field up there, and leading to the field is this beautiful path which is canopied by the branches and leaves from the trees on either side. Unfortunately, some total tosser sees fit to leave exactly the kinds of things you've described (tyres, washing machines, etc) all over that place, which really is a sad thing, because really that place is great.

Jesus. People are just raised wrong, I guess. You know once I was smoking a cigarette I had rolled myself while I was driving, and I tossed the butt out the window. Two seconds later a cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket for littering. I explained that the rolling papers I used were biodegradable, and the cigarette itself was filterless. Still got the ticket. Parked my car, found the butt, fought the ticket in court, and won.

I should think you did. And the frustrating thing is that there are people who litter like hell who can get away with it. You know, I've been thinking about setting up something one day so I can monitor the place I was talking about, because I'd really like to get whoever is doing it for fly-tipping.

I hope you get a chance to follow through with your promise because these people deserve a few teeth knocked into the gutter. Well done you sir for fighting back, only time we've had bad fly tipping is when gypo's crashed the field near where I live and dumped all their shit (including their shit) onto the side before leaving again. My friend's parents went vigilante on them but they had rotweilers. Bastards.

Anyway well done again!

Same. But it seems like it would be nearly impossible to catch anyone in the act, unless you had remote surveillance or just happened to stumble upon them. Which is what makes it one of those 'perfect crimes', I guess.

I'm sure it'll eventually wind up on Passive Aggressive Notes. Although it's not entirely passive.

Fuck them UP. Our street has a lot of shady characters, but there's a sort of rule that we keep at least the front of our homes tidy. That is, until a bunch of low-income families moved into the house down the street with their constantly and inexplicably nude children, letting the little shits run wild and leave all kinds of Moon Boots and Bicycles and other crap all over the place.
