My Brothers New Friend

Posted 04-24-2011 at 06:55 AM by JennyGenesis
Yesterday I went to the shop and bought myself a 4 pack of John Smith's Extra Smooth. Never tried it before but smooth beers have always been a favourite of mine. When I got home I put the cans straight in the fridge since they were not chilled when I bought them from the shop. I read the small details on the can since it's something I always do with food and drink. I noticed on the can it said “Floating Widget inside”. I started to panic as I didn't know what it was and I was scared that it might be something I could accidentally swallow when drinking from the can. I asked my mum and she told me that it's simply a ball to stop the beer from frothing over when I open the can. Today I opened up a can and loved every sip. My brother (who's 10 and has aspergers) soon become interested when I told him that there's a ball inside the can. I let him have a sip and the reaction on his face was hilarious. It looked like he had just sucked on a lemon. When I finished the can I washed it out with water then tipped it upside down so he could see the magic ball that he had become so interested in. My stepdad cut open the can with a knife and gave the ball to my brother. So now my brother is obsessed with this little ball from a can of beer. He kept it in his pocket and kept looking at it all the time. He has even taken it to the grandparents today to show them because he thinks they will be quite interested in it. I doubt it somehow. He wants me to hurry up and drink the other 3 cans so he can have more floating widgets and even wants me to but more can's of John Smith's down the shop. I somehow doubt that drinking enough can's of John Smith's so that he can have a village of floating widget's would be good for my health.

My brother won't ever run out of friends if I keep buying these

Gwan-Thwei will be swooping down on this blog.

Those little widgets are inside Guinness tins and I whenever I used to be a drinker of the stuff (still do on occasions (Paddies day)) I would cut out the little ball and keep collect it. I lost them all now but they will never stop making Guinness and I won't stop cutting out the balls.

Now, I'm not a big ale man. Then again I'm not a beer, stout, bitter or lager man either. It has a very, very bad taste to it.

Tip, nothing's worse than a Guinness hangover. Everything tastes weird and it dyes your hangover shit.

Ridg3 likes whiskey.

Whiskey makes me smash windows.

I love whiskey. But only straight whiskey. I hate mixing it with something else. I was drinking some whiskey as I wrote this blog. I'm a big beer person. Bitter ale is my favourite. Never tried stout but I find lager ok though i'm extremely fussy with what lager I drink.

Whiskey, vodka, double concentrated mead (I make meaaaan mead!) it's all good.

Cider's where it's at though, my orchard bit stinks of cider every autumn and I love watching squirrels get pissed! Hehe

Cider seems to be the massive craze. I don't hate it. I think it's nice but it's not as totally amazing as all my friends seem to think it is. Then again none of them like the selection of beers I drink.

All ciders that you can buy in the supermarket are shit compared to this: http://www.westons-cider.co.uk/

*EDIT: rephrased to make sense* The best cider I've had is from Devon and the west country, sold directly by local farmers or in local pubs, and it tastes so good that it's not comparable to anything mass produced and sold in supermarkets.

If I read that correctly, and fuck me if it was hard...you'd rather get vodka from Devon than imported from Poland?

Also forgot 2 say, das a rly cute blog

But of course the cider you can only find in Devon tops pretty much anything else you can find anywhere.

Well, it seemed that you didn't grasp that in your other post. Maybe I missed something or maybe you need to think before you type.

I'm fussy with cider and lager. I'll drink it at the pub or out of a bottle but I won't drink them out of cans.

I'm fussy with whiskey. I don't drink it mixed with anything, it destroys whiskey. I don't touch vodka because it's nasty icky poo and beer tastes like ass.

Aftershock
Goldschlager
Port
Fat Frogs
Any fanny drink is all tasty om nom.

Absinthe is just... mad and strangely enough I haven't even tried poteen yet despite my heritage.

Magners or my own blend. Deffo.

Doesn't everyone like Magners though?

No... not everybody likes Magners, not everybody likes cider.

My preferable choice of cider is Kopparberg Pear. It is the tits.

I remember drinking Strongbow, fuck that was a bad period of my life. I stopped drinking it whenever I walked past the old rail-line and seen all the Derry faggots passing around one bottle of strongbow (5+ people) and them all pretending to be drunk.

I genuinely wish I still liked cider.

About 3 quid for a big fucking bottle. Now it tastes more like ass the older you get.

I drink beer mainly, or vodski mixed with whatever I can find, except Diet Coke.

As with what Ridg3 said, Kopparberg is the shit.

I'd never heard of the little balls in beer cans until last week, when my supervisor told me about them. He suggested that they were there to make canned beer have the texture like it came out of a keg.

I thought this blog was going to end with "He was so obsessed with making new ball friends that he drank all my beer, got sick and needed to have his stomach pumped". I'm glad it didn't.

Not really sure how a ball could do that. Then again I still don't understand how a ball stops my beer from shooting out the can when I open it.
