It's exciting times for Oddworld fans. And in due course, you'll understand why. In my youth, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee was one of the few video games that gave birth to my passion for gaming. But this was unlike anything I'd ever played before. The atmosphere, visuals and audio were so immersive and truly unique. The beautifully pre-rendered backgrounds and artistic imagery really shone a golden light and played an important role in the captivation of the environments, and the world in general. It will always have a special place in my heart. Aside from that, it's also amazing in terms of it's fun and strategic gameplay. Flying through the story in a casual sense was entertaining and enjoyable, but perfecting completion was also tough and satisfying. It's boisterous for fellow hardcore gamers and fans to play co-operativily, and sometimes even competitively. It was a hefty technological leap at it's time, and a great package.
Three franchise installments later; it was slowly dying, both in quality and popularity. But losing the publishing deals was the critical hit. The company essentially went bust, thus putting an enormous halt on production for a long time. It was a dark and dejecting end. Five projects that were initially planned, were completely scrapped. Oddworld Inhabitants had faded into the shadows, never to be seen or heard of again.
Six years had past; and then the unthinkable happened. One of my impossible dreams was that Oddworld would one day be resurrected from it's grave. And low and behold, it was. Just Add Water, the development team behind the niche PSN title Gravity Crash, are venturing into multiple Oddworld projects. I'm highly confident that this dev team will produce the goods. I admire them for their attitude towards the video game industry, and their love for the retro elements of gaming - which will no doubt do the Abe's Oddysee remake wondors. Words cannot describe how happy and excited I am about this amazing prospect.
An HD re-thread of Strangers Wrath is currently being worked on extensively; and word on the web suggests that Abe's Oddysee is getting the same deluxe treatment. From gazing at the impressive enhancemets that Strangers Wrath's shiny new remodel is recieving, I can only dream of how Abe's Oddysee's will turn out. I've never been this excited for a game in my entire life. It's definitely one to watch. I'll be sniffing out all the details I can for the next few months. Thank you, Just Add Water, for rescuing this precious franchise. Handle it with care. I look forward to falling in love with it once again. Welcome back, Abe.
